Pink Tutu Rome: Post 142 - Roman Holiday (and it's fab!)
Ciao bellas! It's your favourite tutu-clad traveller, Emma, writing to you from the Eternal City! That's right, I'm in Rome, and let me tell you, this city is absolutely bursting with beauty and romance – exactly the sort of vibes I live for!
This week, I decided to take a trip down memory lane, retracing the steps of one of my all-time favourite films – Roman Holiday with the stunning Audrey Hepburn. Seriously, who doesn’t love a classic Audrey Hepburn film? Those fabulous outfits and that timeless grace… I’m definitely hoping to channel some of her magic during my stay here.
It all began on a Wednesday morning, of course – gotta keep that #PinkTutuRome consistency going! - in the charming little Derbyshire town I call home. I took a glorious train journey down to the South of England and caught a quick Eurostar across the Channel, because seriously, who wants to fly when you can sit back, relax and enjoy a fab journey with some great scenery whizzing past your window?
As I was planning this Roman trip, I felt this need for some proper Italian fashion inspiration. Honestly, if you follow me on Instagram you’ll know, I can't resist a bit of sartorial wanderlust. And what better place to do just that than the legendary Via Condotti in Rome? I mean, seriously, this street is literally a fashion dream! I had to resist buying everything I saw - and trust me, I'm pretty good at resisting, you can’t call yourself a fashion blogger without that discipline.
After a slightly chaotic (but totally fun) trip around the Pantheon, (oh, the history, the grandeur…), I realised it was time for a coffee and gelato pitstop. The thing is, every gelato place in Italy feels like the most fabulous gelateria on earth. I know, right? I really shouldn't admit to it, but the truth is…I had two. In one day! No, I know, what a shocker.
My gelato adventure wasn’t the only highlight of the day. You see, I am a massive fan of ballet. I know that might not surprise you given my tutus. Well, in Rome, this was an absolutely essential experience: to take a tour of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Oh my, this magnificent space oozes beauty and history! The opulence was unbelievable, and you could just feel the energy of all the great performers who’ve graced its stage. They even gave me a sneaky peek behind the curtain - a dream come true!
Now, I’ll be honest. The evening had arrived and after a bit of a wander around the Trevi Fountain - yep, it really was as fabulous as you’d hope for, I couldn't quite cope with a fancy evening dress and stilettos (that's a future me goal, trust me!). I needed a rest! I snuck into one of the cafes off the main street, and watched the Romans pass by while sipping a very fine glass of Prosecco - cheers to good food and a bit of downtime!
Don’t get me wrong - I'm living the good life here in Rome! But being a tutu-wearing blogger, it wouldn’t be a trip if I didn’t manage to squeeze in some serious sightseeing. So, tomorrow is all about the Coliseum, The Roman Forum, and maybe even a trip to the Catacombs, if I have time (after lunch of course).
You can trust that I'm gonna get some fab photos (my camera isn't leaving my side!) and share all the good stuff on my socials - just check my hashtag #PinkTutuRome. Until next week's blog post, bella - remember, everyone looks good in pink!
P.S. Want to know what else is awesome about Rome? They sell a fabulous pink ice cream - totally the perfect treat for your afternoon wandering through this amazing city. You should really get yourself one - and if you can get a snap of you in it with a Roman landmark? Even better!
Lots of love, Emma x
