Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Post #157)

Wednesday, 1998-06-10

Ciao bellas! 🩰✨ It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing, travel-obsessed ballerina, back from the cobbled streets of Rome! As I sit here sipping an espresso, the sun warming my face, and the sounds of the city swirling around me, I can't help but smile. Rome has been a total dream!

This week's Pink Tutu adventures have taken us all the way to Italy, a land of sunshine, pasta, and history - a perfect place for a girl who loves a bit of drama and a whole lot of beautiful architecture.

I funded my Italian escape, naturally, through a string of fabulous performances – a little Shakespearean ballet at the theatre, some street-side dancing to entertain the tourists, and a private performance for a rather charming Count (who insisted I stay for dinner, where we talked about the Bolshoi Ballet, obviously!) It's a tough life, being a tutu-wearing globetrotter! 😉

My trusty companion? A gorgeous cherry-red vintage suitcase packed to the brim with enough pink tutus to make even a flamingo jealous. I always like to blend in, don't you know! This week, it's a slightly more delicate, layered tulle affair, with soft pink ribbons and a splash of sequined butterfly detail. I know, I know, so chic. 😉

Day 1: A Grand Entrance

Arriving in Rome, I was immediately captivated. The smell of freshly baked bread, the chatter in the streets, and the ancient, towering buildings that looked as if they'd stepped straight out of a Renaissance painting! After settling into my little room near the Pantheon – let's face it, who can resist a good dome? – I set off to explore the heart of the city.

Now, you might be thinking, "Emma, did you REALLY wear your pink tutu everywhere?" And my answer would be... absolutely! Rome was just begging for a little pink tutu magic, and let me tell you, it's a statement piece! Even in a city bursting with fashion and beauty, the pink tutu cut through like a beam of sunshine, making a statement everywhere I went! I’m telling you, I even had a street performer in a busker outfit come up to me and tell me he loved it. (Honestly, I was more flattered by his comments on my tutu than by the impromptu serenade on his street piano.)

Day 2: The Colosseum & An Ode to Glamour

Today, the majestic Colosseum drew me in. It felt like I’d stepped back in time, walking through those mighty arches, imagining the roars of the crowds and the clash of gladiatorial battles. I almost expected to see a chariot race whiz by. Imagine!

As I walked back to the Pantheon, I stopped to admire the sheer opulence of some of the shops. I've always been a fan of a bit of sartorial drama, and here in Rome, the stores felt like stages for a beautiful fashion show! And what was I going to do but dress to impress? Pink tulle twirling through the Roman sunshine… what a way to see the sights!

Day 3: Exploring the Vatican & Ballet Dreams

Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without a visit to the Vatican. Stepping into the St Peter’s Basilica, I was speechless. The mosaics, the art, the scale... the whole experience felt incredibly moving. And just wait for my latest discovery – an incredible hidden gem tucked away just a few streets from the Vatican - a ballet school with a history that dates back to the Renaissance! Talk about fairytale beginnings!

And I didn't leave it at admiring them, of course! I had to experience their famous "classical ballet" course! It was fantastic! So many graceful twirls, perfect extensions, and the instructor’s praise? Honestly, they could write romance novels based on those compliments! And what did I wear to this masterclass, you might ask? My trusty pink tutu, obviously. Even a classical ballet teacher knows the beauty of a good pink tulle skirt. 🩰

Day 4: Finding My Fashion Muse

With every corner I turned, Rome inspired me. It was a fashion frenzy, from the exquisite garments in the shop windows to the bold colours worn by the locals. One street, in particular, seemed like it had come straight out of a fairytale - Via Condotti. There, nestled between high-fashion boutiques, I felt like a modern-day princess! My trusty little notebook came out (covered with pink butterflies, obviously!) to jot down notes for future Pink Tutu fashion pieces! Oh, to have my own collection of pink tutu inspired couture in every shade imaginable!

I think you can see why my suitcase is getting pretty heavy...

Day 5: Ciao Bella, Rome!

So, there we have it, folks, a little taste of my Italian adventures. But like all good things, even the most breathtaking city eventually comes to an end. Now, back to London to catch up on sleep, indulge in some post-trip retail therapy and dream up new routines for my next show! (Spoiler alert, a pink tutu is most definitely involved in that routine. And if I'm feeling particularly daring? A flamenco-inspired performance! 😉)

Until next week, stay twirling and remember to add a little bit of pink to your life!
Ciao Bella,
Emma x
