Buongiorno from sunny Rome! ☀️ Can you believe it? Your girl, Emma, is finally here, in the Eternal City, twirling my way through ancient streets and marveling at the Colosseum! The train journey from Derbyshire was, as always, a dreamy escape. My trusty pink tutu took pride of place next to me in the carriage, causing a few curious smiles. I think people are starting to understand my message: Pink tutus are for everyone!
Speaking of spreading the pink tutu love, you're not going to believe the adventures I've already had. Yesterday, I landed at Rome Fiumicino Airport, feeling a mix of excitement and butterflies (mostly from the pink tutu, of course!). And right there, amidst the usual chaos, was a group of Italian children, dancing in a flash mob - in pink tutus! Yes, you read that right! I nearly fainted with excitement. I mean, imagine, the Roman kids embracing my pink tutu philosophy?! It’s official, this trip is going to be magical!
The Shopping Spree! 🛍️
My first Roman mission: shopping! Of course! And, what's a trip to Rome without visiting the magnificent Via Condotti? I swear, it was like stepping straight into a fairytale. The window displays, the luxury boutiques... it was all too much for my heart to handle!
However, the highlight of my afternoon had to be discovering this little independent boutique on a backstreet. It's called "La Ballerina" and it's a treasure trove of vintage balletwear and fashion. The lady who owns it is a total darling, and she helped me find the most divine pink tulle skirt! It's perfect for twirling beneath the Roman sky and you bet, it's going straight to my Instagram feed later.
Dinner & Roman Delights 🍝🍷
Tonight, I dined like a queen! 👑 My first taste of real, authentic Italian cuisine - the most exquisite pasta, perfectly prepared seafood, and, of course, a lovely glass of Italian wine! As I sat, watching the bustling Piazza Navona, I was transported to another world. You know how much I love a beautiful ballet performance but the Roman lifestyle itself is an art form.
My Rome Itinerary - A Dance of Adventure
My days in Rome are going to be packed with beautiful experiences:
- Tomorrow - I'm starting my day with a private ballet lesson with a local ballet teacher. They say their teaching style is super unique, I can’t wait to experience the Italian flavour! Later, I'm going to spend the afternoon at the stunning Trevi Fountain, tossing in a coin for good luck (and for a lifetime supply of pink tutus!).
- Thursday - I’ll be visiting the breathtaking Sistine Chapel and marveling at the intricate art on the ceiling. Michelangelo's genius deserves a standing ovation, so naturally I’ll be throwing a few grand jetés in there for good measure. - Friday - I’ve been promised an incredible ballet experience! There is a special event on at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, a unique take on Swan Lake! This sounds simply exquisite, and, of course, it would be a crime not to add this to my Pink Tutu blog. It will be the perfect ending to an exciting and already completely wonderful week in Rome.
A Little Pink Tutu Fashion Tip 👗💖
One thing I've realised is that the Italians have a very specific sense of style. I think we can all learn a little from the Roman elegance. So, remember ladies, accessorise, accessorise, accessorise! The little touches make all the difference. I've found that some of the most fabulous outfits I've spotted are completed by adding an eye-catching hat or an interesting scarf. I can't wait to buy myself a cute beret while I’m here - with a touch of pink, of course!
