Pink Tutu Rome: #167 – Ciao Bella!
Wednesday 19th August, 1998
Ciao, darlings!
Well, I'm back! Back in the Eternal City, Rome, for another whirlwind week of tutus, travel, and a dash of dolce vita! I landed last night, buzzing with excitement. There's something about arriving in Rome that just feels electric. The air smells like a symphony of ancient history, freshly baked bread, and jasmine. I’m already head-over-heels for the vibrant atmosphere, the friendly locals, and the dazzling, delicious food – I’ve been practicing my Italian for this very moment! (And, yes, of course I had a plate of pasta within ten minutes of landing, just to be sure.)
As always, this trip is a blend of exploring hidden gems, soaking up some culture, and a fair dose of ‘shopping til I drop’. And did I tell you? My dear friend from Derbyshire, Lucy, is joining me this time, bringing double the tutus, double the fun, and a whole lot of girl-power.
A Train Journey to Remember
We arrived in Rome via the most magnificent train journey. The high-speed Eurostar whisked us through breathtaking landscapes. The countryside was a masterpiece painted in green and gold, dotted with charming little towns and ancient ruins. It was the kind of journey that truly captures your imagination. We whiled away the hours sharing stories, sketching in our notebooks, and indulging in the endless supply of pastries from the cafe cart. It was pure bliss!
A Touch of Italian Romance
First stop? The Colosseum! Of course. I felt a rush of history just walking up to it. To imagine the roar of the crowd, the scent of leather and sweat, and the bravery of the gladiators, it's an experience that leaves a mark on your soul. We spent hours exploring the grand old arena, the ghosts of its past whispered in the warm Italian air.
Later, we wandered through the charming, cobbled streets of Trastevere. The scent of fresh pasta wafted from every corner, the laughter of children echoed from the piazzas, and the air was alive with the sound of Italian music. We sampled the local delicacies, watched street artists, and soaked up the vibrant energy of this captivating neighbourhood.
An Evening of Ballet Perfection
To round off the day, we treated ourselves to a ballet performance at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Tonight was a beautiful production of Romeo and Juliet – such passionate dancing! Every pirouette was flawless, every leap was a testament to the power of ballet. Even after a long day of exploration, the elegance and grace of the performance transported us to a realm of beauty and artistry. And, of course, I sported a custom pink tutu with a floral detail that complemented the Italian sunset.
A Tutu Filled with Dreams
I have a dream, darlings! I truly believe that wearing a pink tutu is a superpower – it encourages you to embrace your creativity, embrace your spirit, and dance through life with boundless joy. The tutu is a symbol of transformation, a reminder that anything is possible when you wear it with confidence and grace. So, remember, dear friends, that wearing a pink tutu isn't just about looking stylish; it's about expressing your individuality and embracing the magical power within you!
Until next Wednesday, darlings!
Stay twirling, Emma xx
P.S. Stay tuned next week for more Roman adventures! I’m planning to explore the Vatican, catch a stunning sunset at the Pantheon, and shop for some gorgeous Italian silk!
