Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday, 1998-08-26 - Ciao Bella!

Post Number: 168

Hello darlings! Welcome back to my weekly Rome adventures! Today marks a new week and a new city, for I've taken a train journey to the very heart of Italy, the dazzling, historic Rome! Now, I know what you're thinking: "Emma, in Rome?! Without your beloved pink tutu?! Surely not!" Well, you'd be surprised, my dears. Rome's streets have already proven to be the perfect backdrop for a pink tutu, and let me tell you, the gelato shops here? Absolutely heavenly.

This week, I'm taking a break from my usual performance schedule, opting instead for some Italian glamour. It seems a perfect time to focus on fashion and let the city work its magic. My trusty ballet bag (with pockets big enough to fit my whole wardrobe, trust me!) is brimming with fabulous fabrics and statement accessories – think shimmering satins, ruffled tulle, and a collection of dazzling costume jewels fit for a Roman queen! But don't worry, a few carefully chosen tutus made the journey too, tucked away with love and a promise of grand, spontaneous pirouettes under the Colosseum (yes, I know, it's a dream!).

Today, the sun was already scorching the pavements when I woke, pouring in through my balcony overlooking a tiny Roman piazza. It seems like half the city already wakes up before dawn, enjoying pastries and strong coffee at charming cafes tucked between the city's many historic buildings. Even without a ballet performance, I always get up early, ready to face the day with the same energy and grace. My morning started with a gentle stretching routine in my hotel room (yes, darling, I'm even in the lap of luxury here, thanks to my incredible supporters!) before hopping onto a vintage Italian tram for a ride into the centre.

Rome's a whirlwind of history and beautiful architecture. I'm practically overwhelmed with awe! From the colossal Roman Forum, echoing with whispers of Emperors past, to the Pantheon, that glorious circular dome which makes even the grandest ballerina feel tiny, the sheer grandeur of it all is exhilarating. And the narrow cobblestone streets... I just adore those, filled with boutiques, bakeries and flower stalls. Everything is so colourful, vibrant, full of life.

But this is no ordinary travelogue, dears. I'm looking for those pink tutu moments that Rome can offer. Let's face it, pink tutu looks amazing in front of fountains, and you haven't lived until you've seen a full-length twirl around the Trevi Fountain, coin wish in hand. It's an absolutely divine location, don't you think? And those graceful marble angels atop the Basilica di San Pietro? They're practically my fellow dancers, posing for my next Instagram photo! The art, the culture, the architecture, they're all like set pieces for the performance of my life.

Oh, darling! I almost forgot! I stumbled upon the most divine vintage shop earlier today! Imagine: shelves stacked with lace-trimmed frocks and flamboyant hats! It felt like a vintage movie set, complete with shimmering fabrics and an incredible perfume wafting through the air. My intuition, as always, guided me straight to the most glorious, sparkling pink sequin top! Perfect, simply perfect for this evening's opera, La Bohème, which I can't wait to see at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. It's all so terribly dramatic and passionate, a perfect stage for my very own ballet-inspired drama!

For dinner tonight, I'm dreaming of a traditional Roman feast – pastas, pizzas, perhaps even a little prosecco! But before I settle in, I'll be catching the most magnificent sunset over the Roman rooftops. There's something about that orange glow that inspires the heart to twirl, to reach for the sky, and, well, perhaps to have a glass of Italian red wine and lose myself in the beauty of the moment.

But now, I need to get back to those shops, you see, a few strategically placed sequins can never hurt... and let's face it, the pink tutu's never left my side.

Stay tuned for next Wednesday's post where I'll share my adventures at the opera and all the captivating scenes Rome has in store. Don't forget to visit my website at www.pink-tutu.com and let's keep spreading the joy of the pink tutu!

Until next time, stay sparkly, darlings!

Love,

Emma xoxo
