Pink Tutu Rome: Week 170 - Ciao Bella!

Buongiorno from the Eternal City! That's right, my darlings, I've arrived in Rome, the city of history, romance, and gelato! This week on Pink Tutu Rome, we're stepping out of Derbyshire and straight into the heart of Italian charm, with a whole host of pink-tinted adventures waiting.

As usual, my travelling companion is the tutu. It's a pale pink one this time, so elegant, and I think it's just the thing for gliding down Roman cobblestone streets, don't you think? This whole trip is actually being fuelled by a fantastic fundraising performance at The Derby Playhouse – my version of Swan Lake, only in a pink tutu. My troupe are amazing; their fundraising energy is absolutely infectious, so I knew this trip was going to be a dream.

I'm here for three whole days, exploring, and just living my best life in a beautiful city!

Train Travel Triumph

The journey itself was an absolute delight! There's something about chugging along through Europe by train that feels so glamorous. The Eurostar was packed with all kinds of interesting characters. It's fascinating seeing so many people from all walks of life headed to different places - a little slice of life in motion! I managed to snag a window seat so I could soak in the scenery as the Channel Tunnel whirled by. There was something absolutely mesmerising about that darkness - I almost expected to see a fantastical unicorn galloping through the underground tunnels.

And when we arrived in Rome, the air was warm, the streets busy, and the colours were breathtaking! There was a distinct vibrancy in the air, something that reminded me so much of ballet class, all those whirling skirts, energy, and focus on expressing yourself in every move. I can't wait to delve into this fascinating city.

Roma, Sweet Roma

First stop? The Trevi Fountain. I always feel a little bit nervous before I see a new landmark, but I can tell you that seeing it in real life, just wowed me! It was everything I imagined and more. I absolutely had to have a gelato whilst watching all the coins raining down on the water. What a wonderful place! The crowds, the artistry, the history - it's so magical.

Of course, I couldn't resist a quick outfit change by the Fountain for some fabulous photos! I was so tempted to take a dip in the Trevi, to get that real pink tutu in the fountain vibe going - it would have made a sensational picture - but the security guards didn't quite agree!

A Fashion Frenzy

The next stop on our Roman itinerary? Fashion!

I simply can't resist a spot of window-shopping. It's so much fun trying on the beautiful fabrics and feeling all the soft satins and silks. And what better place to indulge this shopping craze than Rome! The clothes here have an air of romantic flair and grace that is just perfect for twirling around and making you feel like the most beautiful ballerina in the world.

We popped into a few stunning boutiques, picked up some gorgeous jewellery to match the delicate rose petals on my pale pink tutu (yes, another pink tutu outfit!), and just generally felt that luxurious Italian fashion vibe. It's all about timeless pieces, sophisticated elegance, and a sense of fun. I think that's why I love ballet so much, and why the Roman fashion scene suits me down to the ground.

Eating Like a Princess

Now, you can't explore Rome without indulging in the cuisine! Tonight's highlight? Pasta alla gricia - a symphony of perfectly cooked spaghetti coated in the richest, smokiest guanciale and peppery pecorino romano cheese. It was so delicious! The aroma of the garlic and cheese alone is enough to send you into a culinary bliss. And a glass of sparkling Prosecco? Oh, the Italian life is definitely calling my name!

Of course, we ended the night with gelato. The strawberry and pistachio was my absolute favourite – a sweet and refreshing treat after a delicious Italian feast!

A Cultural Explosion

And finally, this weekend is *the highlight! I’m so thrilled to be in Rome to see the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma performance this weekend - *“La Bohème.” My darlings, La Bohème! What a magical experience, and what a wonderful opportunity to soak up the sheer passion of opera. My heart fluttered at every aria. The costumes, the drama, the whole story is truly awe-inspiring.

Pink Tutu Rome – Bringing it All Together

This whirlwind trip has been incredible! So much beauty, fashion, culture, history, and fun, all seasoned with delicious Italian food. I love Rome for its passion, its creativity, and its dedication to art in all its forms. I see a parallel to my love of ballet, and how it resonates throughout every corner of my life.

That’s it from Rome for this week, darlings! I’ll be back next week, Wednesday, with more adventures in the Eternal City – so do pop back and visit us on the Pink Tutu website – www.pink-tutu.com. Until next time, remember:

Always wear a tutu – pink, of course!

Ciao Bella!
