Buongiorno from Rome, my darlings! This is Emma, your pink tutu-clad blogger, back with another slice of travel magic. It feels incredible to be in this enchanting city. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the scent of sweet pastries fills the air, the laughter of children bounces off ancient stone buildings, and the warmth of the sun makes me want to twirl, twirl, twirl in my favourite pink tutu!
You see, this week, I’m on a mission: to spread the joy of tutus all across this beautiful country. Italy, land of passionate love and delicious pasta, is my current ballet adventure playground! It's such a joy to be here!
Rome, Oh Rome!
My journey to Italy began in Derbyshire. I had a bit of a dilemma – to take the train or fly? As much as I adore exploring new airports in my pink tutu, the lure of a long train journey won me over. The thought of winding my way across Europe in a train carriage, with time to catch up on my favourite novels and perhaps do a little impromptu ballet practice in the corridor (shh, don't tell!), felt absolutely delightful.
Speaking of railways, you can't be in Rome without hopping on a historic "Trenino" – the vintage tram, all bright yellow and charmingly old-fashioned, that takes you right through the heart of the city. I grabbed a cappuccino, tucked my tutu into my handbag (a precaution to avoid potential puddles and rogue gelato spills), and embarked on a whimsical ride!
Pink Tutus in the Eternal City!
Where to begin? It’s a kaleidoscope of history, culture and, most importantly, fashion! I've been waltzing my way through cobblestone streets, soaking in the stunning Roman Forum with its ruins whispering tales of emperors and gladiators. The Colosseum! Majestic! Its sheer size and grandeur left me breathless. Honestly, I could see myself dancing a solo on the stage of a grand arena - imagine the applause!
But let's get back to my pink tutu mission! Rome is simply thriving with potential for tutus! The vibrant street performers with their passionate music and impressive skills (think opera singers and jugglers!) made me want to whip out my pink tutu and join in! Imagine the show!
Art, Culture and Tutu Love!
The museums here are mind-blowing! Stepping into the Galleria Borghese, with its glorious sculptures and paintings by masters like Bernini and Caravaggio, I couldn't resist imagining these masterpieces being choreographed into ballet pieces! The artistry, the detail, the flow - perfect inspiration for a ballerina's mind!
Then there's the Trevi Fountain! Now, that is a stage worthy of a ballerina’s grand finale! I couldn’t resist tossing a coin (for good luck, of course), and whispered a wish for the ultimate pink tutu ensemble!
Speaking of the ultimate pink tutu, I’ve been absolutely swooning over the shops here in Rome! The city is bursting with delicious colours and fabrics, the textures, the vibrant patterns, the craftsmanship… all of it feels so inspiring and luxurious! And, yes, my darling, this week's new additions to my tutu collection are just breathtaking!
Fashion, Food and Finding my Groove
Did I mention the food?! The freshly-made pasta dishes in every little trattoria I pass - oh my, the aromas are enough to make your tummy dance. I’ve fallen head over heels for spaghetti carbonara – it’s pure comfort food for a ballerina on the go! And, my goodness, the gelato - especially pistachio!
After all this cultural feasting, it's time to unleash my inner ballerina! Today's grand finale – ballet class! I found a beautiful, airy studio tucked away in a quiet alley, and, despite my jet-lag, felt completely energised as I gracefully stretched and glided with other dancers in Rome!
Tonight, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma – *a show, darling! *I can't wait! I'll be dancing the night away in my pinkest tutu, letting the emotions of Rome and its captivating art swirl around me.
