Pink Tutu Rome - #174: Ciao Bella! Exploring the Eternal City!

Wednesday, 7th October, 1998

Buongiorno, darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind journey to the Eternal City, Rome! I know, I know, it feels like ages since I last graced you with my fabulous fashion escapades. But trust me, the delay was worth it! Rome, my loves, is a symphony for the senses.

My trip was all thanks to a splendid gig at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma – oh, how the audience roared for my pirouettes! After the show, my suitcase was packed with the most beautiful vintage pieces – a sequined bodice that shimmered like the Roman Forum at sunset, and a velvet skirt so sumptuous it made me want to waltz all night long.

Of course, my beloved pink tutu came along for the ride, twirling its way through the ancient streets and charming cobblestone alleys. Let's face it, pink and Rome? It's a match made in heaven! The vibrant shades of the Italian sunset were like a spotlight on my tulle masterpiece, and I had no problem attracting attention, in the most fabulous way possible!

And oh, the food! Pasta so al dente it could have danced on point, pizza topped with glistening, fresh mozzarella that would make you want to weep tears of joy, gelato so smooth and creamy you could swirl it with your little finger, it was an absolute delight.

Speaking of delights, have you ever experienced a city where history practically spills out onto the streets? I’m talking about the Colosseum, with its weathered stones whispering stories of gladiatorial battles and roaring crowds. The Trevi Fountain, sparkling like a liquid jewel and making me dream of the future, where my dance career will be glittering under the Tuscan sun. Every cobblestone and crumbling archway screamed romance and adventure, and I was ready to soak it all in, pink tutu and all!

A Pink Tutu-ful Fashion Adventure:

It wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu blog post without a bit of shopping, now would it? And darling, let me tell you, Rome was a shopper's paradise! From the quaint boutiques tucked away in charming backstreets, overflowing with unique vintage finds, to the bustling market stalls brimming with hand-painted silk scarves and handmade leather goods, there was something to ignite every fashionista's spirit. I even managed to find a delicate chain of pink pearls that would perfectly match my newest pair of ballet slippers.

But let's be real, the best part of my fashion journey? That was the incredible craftsmanship of the Italian artisans. Imagine, strolling past a cobblestone street filled with bespoke dressmakers creating masterpieces out of velvet, satin and lace, while their shops oozed the scents of leather, perfume and blooming rose bushes. It felt like stepping into a movie scene - just with a lot more pink, of course!

From Colosseum to Capuchin Catacombs - A Glimpse Into History:

I couldn’t leave Rome without experiencing the incredible juxtaposition of life and death in the heart of the city. On one hand, we have the Colosseum, an architectural marvel and testament to the Romans’ brilliance. On the other, we have the eerie but mesmerising Capuchin Catacombs, a haunting underground world that showcases human fragility in a poignant way. Seeing the skeletons dressed in robes and holding rosaries really made me stop and ponder, and although slightly unnerving, it certainly left a lasting impression.

The Pink Tutu Train Ride Home:

Of course, no journey would be complete without the fabulous train ride home. I boarded the high-speed Eurostar, clutching my carefully curated bags of treasures and a heart full of Roman memories. As the landscape raced past my window, I found myself feeling sentimental, watching as the scenery morphed from rolling vineyards to rolling hills, and the bustling city life fading into quaint villages and sleepy countryside.

The experience was a reminder that travel is more than just a journey. It's about the memories you gather, the experiences you embrace, and the friendships you forge. As I travelled through the changing scenery, I couldn’t help but dream of future adventures, envisioning the Pink Tutu swirling through the cobbled streets of Venice or twirling beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris! I even imagine myself floating gracefully through the pyramids of Giza, but maybe that’s another blog post for another day.

So until next week, when I’ll be back with more stories from the wonderful world of travel, remember: you can embrace the beauty and magic of life, even in a pink tutu. Until then, keep twirling, darlings! And never, ever forget to chase your dreams!

Ciao, bella!

Love always, Emma
