Pink Tutu Rome: #187 - January 6th, 1999: Roman Holiday!
Buongiorno, darling dears! It’s your favourite pink-clad ballerina, Emma, back with another blog post direct from the Eternal City! That's right, folks, this week I've been waltzing around the captivating cobbled streets of Rome, and let me tell you, it's pure amore!
Rome is absolutely brimming with a dazzling blend of history, culture, and chic fashion, all of which perfectly suits my own pink tutu-loving heart. Honestly, I’m practically living my best life here!
Arriving in Style
Now, you know me and my love for all things train travel, especially for long-distance adventures! So, of course, I boarded a shiny, new, high-speed train from Derbyshire, England, straight to the heart of Rome. It's a marvel how they whisk you across borders with such speed and elegance. I felt like I was in a ballet myself, gliding through the countryside at breakneck speed. The views were breath-taking, even better with my signature pink tutu in the window frame!
A Romantic City
Rome itself is a magical wonderland! There’s just so much to take in - majestic ancient buildings, quaint piazzas filled with gelato, lively markets bursting with fresh produce, and captivating art galleries showcasing masterpieces. It's a whirlwind of sights, sounds, and sensations, perfect for inspiring a ballerina like myself!
This week has been filled with so many wondrous moments. My very first stop, after finding a glorious spot in my stunning little hotel near the Spanish Steps, was a quick ballet class at the "Danza Romana" studio. Now, there’s nothing quite like a dance session in a beautiful, historic city. The studio itself felt full of creative energy, and the teacher was divine, totally passionate and inspiring. I swear, after our class I practically floated to the cafe next door for a cappuccino and a heavenly cannoli, which is, of course, one of my favourite sweet treats!
Opera and Elegance
Now, you know I love to experience culture when I’m abroad! So naturally, I had to visit the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma for a night of elegant opera! The building itself was a masterpiece! The performance was stunning – filled with soaring arias, beautiful costumes, and captivating choreography. It reminded me so much of the grandeur and spectacle of my own performances at the Derby Playhouse.
Speaking of performances, this Thursday evening is another gala affair – I’ve got a grand showcase for the Teatro Greco at Taormina! I’m so excited! The breathtaking outdoor amphitheater set against the gorgeous Sicilian backdrop is something I'll never forget.
A Tutu-Friendly City
But before I get swept away in a whirlwind of Sicilian performances, let’s get back to my time in Rome! It wouldn’t be a true “Pink Tutu” blog without some sartorial delights! You see, darling dears, Roman fashion has truly enchanted me. It’s elegant, it's timeless, and, I dare say, it’s a tad on the dramatic side. Think flowy skirts, luxurious fabrics, and daring pops of color – like my trusty pink tutu! Now, I may have already filled my suitcase with a couple of chic vintage finds from a local boutique, but honestly, I could have spent days browsing those quaint shops. They’ve inspired me to consider incorporating some bold florals and romantic lace into my own future tutus. Who knew Rome could spark a tutu revolution?
Next Week: Shopping and Dancing in Rome
The week has been a kaleidoscope of delights, a romantic, cultural, and stylish extravaganza! I'm still swooning over the stunning fountains, the decadent Italian food, and of course, the magnificent art that seems to be tucked around every corner. And who knows, I may even find myself in another ballet class or two! Stay tuned next week as I explore the stunning shopping in Rome and continue my love affair with this charming city!
Remember to check in on Wednesdays for all things Pink Tutu at www.pink-tutu.com.
Until then, may your week be filled with joy and elegance, Lots of love, Emma
xx
P.S. Did you know January 6th is the feast of the Epiphany? So exciting! I actually saw the beautiful "Befana" parade – imagine, a sweet old woman with a magical broom, who gifts candy to all the good children, what a fab concept! Just as dreamy and inspiring as this city, I say! The Italians know how to celebrate life and that’s definitely something to be celebrated!
