Pink Tutu Rome: A Whirlwind of Wonder (#197)

Buongiorno, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-wearing traveller, Emma, checking in from the Eternal City – Rome, baby! This week, I'm taking a break from my usual ballet class routine and embracing the intoxicating rhythm of Italy. This week has been absolutely divine – sunshine, delicious food, and a whirlwind of historical sites that have me spinning like a ballerina on pointe!

Now, you know I'm all about those pink tutus (my latest acquisition – a sparkly lavender number with delicate rose appliqués – is just dreamy), but I must say, Rome has me reconsidering my colour palette. The terracotta hues of the city, the vibrant colours of the gelato, the rich blues and greens of the ancient fountains... it's a feast for the eyes!

A Roman Rhapsody on Rails

This trip started with a journey that felt like something out of a classic film. Stepping onto the Eurostar in London, I felt like I was in a glamorous 1950s travel poster, except I was wearing a custom-made hot pink tutu and my trusty ballet bag! I love train travel, the rhythmic clack of the wheels, the fleeting scenery rushing past – it's such a romantic and serene way to travel. The train took us through France, across the snowy Alps – and finally, into the warmth of Italy.

Rome's Termini station is like stepping back in time, a bustling hub of activity with a charming, old-world air. My gorgeous Airbnb apartment, a spacious little studio with a Juliet balcony, overlooks a cobbled street. You can almost smell the scent of fresh pasta and the aroma of jasmine from the balconies!

The Coliseum – A Ballet of Ancient Might

First on the agenda was a visit to the Colosseum, the iconic gladiatorial arena. This architectural marvel is truly something else! Imagine the battles, the roars of the crowd, the smell of dust and blood – it's fascinating to picture those ancient Romans, and I could almost see their fierce movements. I imagined myself, a pink tutu ballerina, dancing amidst the gladiators, a swirling ballet of history!

After the Coliseum, I ventured into the heart of the city centre and was greeted by the glorious Pantheon. The way the light filters through the opening at the top of this immense dome, the sense of awe it evokes… it was breathtaking!

Fountains, Fashion, and Fantastic Food

I spent the afternoon exploring the Spanish Steps, indulging in some of the most heavenly gelato I've ever tasted – pistachio, blackberry, and ricotta… oh my! Then I indulged in some serious window shopping at the luxury boutiques, and while my wallet cried, my heart sang with excitement. This city just pulses with style, darling!

Of course, no visit to Rome would be complete without a visit to the Trevi Fountain. Legend says that if you toss a coin into the fountain, you'll be sure to return to Rome! Naturally, I tossed in three (pink!) coins – I'd be back here in a heartbeat.

I even squeezed in a delightful visit to a local ballet school. I might not have worn my pink tutu to class – the heat of Rome would have melted it off! - but I joined the students for a fantastic warm-up. Their passion for ballet shone through. Even in Italy, a love for the dance knows no borders.

Eating my Way through the City

Rome's culinary scene is as grand as the ancient monuments! The food is exquisite – and oh so abundant. The fresh pasta, the crisp pizzas, the succulent meats and the freshest seafood! It’s all about the freshest, simplest ingredients – cooked to perfection. Each dish is a little work of art. You'd think I would be a complete glutton after such a feast of Italian delights – but with all that walking and dancing, I'm sure it's balancing out.

The Pink Tutu Dream

One thing I've realized this trip: Rome's magic lies not just in its historical landmarks, but also in the charming chaos, the infectious joie de vivre, and the delicious scent of espresso in the morning air. It's a city that makes you feel alive, vibrant, and… yes… totally ready to embrace your inner pink tutu ballerina!

Next week, I'm heading to the Vatican for a bit of spiritual exploration. And who knows, maybe I'll even convince a cardinal to embrace the pink tutu for a spin!

Until then, darlings! Remember, you can always join me on my adventures – every Wednesday, right here at www.pink-tutu.com.

See you next week,
Emma xxx
