Pink Tutu Rome: #198 - La Dolce Vita in Pink!

Ciao, darlings! It's Emma, your resident Pink Tutu princess, and this week, I'm whisking you all away to the Eternal City - Rome! I'm currently ensconced in a charming little hotel right in the heart of Trastevere, my suitcase bursting with fabulous pink tutus and my heart brimming with excitement.

Wednesday, 19th March, 1999:

It's been a whirlwind journey, let me tell you! I boarded the Eurostar in Derby, my Derbyshire home, feeling utterly glamorous in a sparkling pink tutu and a fitted pink coat. There's nothing like arriving in a new city feeling like a ballerina, it really makes you stand out from the crowd, in a good way, of course. The train journey through France was a delightful blur of charming villages, emerald green fields and even a fleeting glimpse of the Eiffel Tower, shimmering in the late afternoon sun.

My first encounter with the beauty of Rome was quite unexpected. Arriving at Roma Termini station, I was struck by the grand architecture, the buzzing atmosphere and the intoxicating scent of coffee and pastries wafting from nearby cafes. A moment later, a street musician with a beautiful voice started singing "Volare" as I skipped towards my taxi. My heart skipped a beat, too! It felt like the start of an incredible adventure.

Once I settled into my charming hotel room (with a breathtaking view of the Tiber!), I changed into a new pink tulle tutu with a delicate floral print, adding a dash of colour to my elegant ivory dress. Rome really is the perfect setting for pink! I was just in time to catch the 8pm performance of the iconic ballet, "La Bayadère", at the Teatro dell'Opera. The performance was exquisite - the dancers' graceful movements, the stunning costumes and the enchanting music filled the entire theatre with a powerful magic.

After the ballet, my friends and I wandered through the narrow streets of Trastevere, sampling the delectable local gelato. Can we talk about Italian gelato? It's truly an art form, with every flavour a symphony of taste and texture. I went for a luscious pink grapefruit and rose flavour, which was absolutely divine!

Later, as we sipped cappuccino in a quaint little cafe, the lively chatter of locals and the clinking of glasses created a vibrant ambiance. I noticed a woman admiring my pink tulle tutu. She told me how much she loved it, adding with a charming smile, "You remind me of a little princess!"

This evening, as I lie in bed, my tutu still draped on the chair beside me, I'm utterly captivated by the magic of this city. Every corner I turn seems to unveil another historical wonder, another beautiful monument, another burst of vibrant life.

Stay tuned, my dearest pink tutu enthusiasts, for next week's post as I explore the Colosseum, delve into the depths of the Roman Forum, and, of course, discover more delightful fashion finds in the heart of Rome!

And remember, the world's a much brighter place with a little bit of pink. So go forth, wear your pink tutus proudly, and let your inner ballerina shine!

Love,

Emma

P.S. I've updated the Pink-Tutu.com website with new photos from my trip to Rome. And I'm hosting a little "pink tutu" contest! Post a picture of your favourite pink tutu on social media with the hashtag #PinkTutuRome, and the most fabulous picture will win a pink tutu gift basket full of delicious treats and goodies from my trip. Now, off to a morning cappuccino at a cafe in the Piazza Navona - what better way to start the day!
