Pink Tutu Rome: Post #199 - March 31st, 1999 - La Dolce Vita and Dancing Shoes!

Ciao, darlings! Itā€™s Wednesday, which means itā€™s time for another instalment of my Roman adventures. This week, my tutu took me on a whirlwind tour through cobbled streets, magnificent basilicas, and of course, the glorious shops of the Eternal City. As you all know, I live for exploring new cultures and immersing myself in their fashion, and Rome hasnā€™t disappointed one bit!

Last week, I took the Eurostar down from Derbyshire (I adore train journeys - it's such a chic way to travel) and arrived in Rome on Saturday. As I stepped off the train, the warm air enveloped me, the aroma of coffee and freshly baked bread tickled my nose, and I instantly felt like I was in a movie. And Iā€™m not just talking about any film, I mean that iconic Italian film. The one with the beautiful women, the sleek Ferraris, the fabulous fashions, and of course, the dramatic dances!

The Power of Pink (and tutus) in Rome:

First things first, the shops in Rome are divine! I am already seriously smitten with the Italian penchant for colour, especially pink! I picked up a couple of glorious frocks, perfect for my evenings at the opera, as well as a delicate hand-painted porcelain ballerina figurine for my collection (did I mention my passion for ballerinas? Not only do I wear them, I collect them! What's a better accessory than a ballet-inspired wardrobe than a beautiful collection of graceful porcelain ballerinas?).

I also discovered a beautiful tutu boutique in Trastevere, which has become my favourite neighbourhood. I found myself a brand new pink tulle masterpiece, the kind thatā€™ll turn heads wherever I go! I might even wear it to my ballet class tonight! I just canā€™t resist a good tutu, and Rome has been nothing short of a haven for this ballet-loving fashionista.

My Love Affair with Italian Opera:

Speaking of ballet and performance, you canā€™t go to Italy without experiencing their vibrant and world-renowned opera scene. On Sunday evening, I made my way to the Teatro dellā€™Opera di Roma for a breathtaking performance of ā€œLa BohĆØmeā€ ā€“ a true spectacle of drama, romance, and soaring melodies. Itā€™s something everyone should experience at least once in their life. My little pink tutu, in all its glorious frilliness, was the perfect touch of elegance for the evening. And yes, it definitely got a few appreciative glances (the power of pink, you see)!

Pasta, Pizza, and Aperitivo Dreams:

As you can probably tell, food is another one of my biggest passions (along with pink and tutus of course!). So far, Iā€™ve been indulging in every culinary treat this city has to offer: delicious pasta, perfect pizzas, and the most decadent gelato. My tip: do not skip out on the Aperitivo hour ā€“ itā€™s the perfect way to mingle with the locals and sample their delicious wines and appetizers!

On This Day, 1999-03-31:

Today, Wednesday, I am taking a much-needed day to recharge after all the shopping and feasting! Iā€™ve planned a day trip to the beautiful Borghese Gallery to admire some of my favourite Renaissance artworks, and afterwards, I am treating myself to a luxurious spa treatment to really unwind.

Donā€™t worry, I will share all the highlights in my next blog post. Stay tuned!

My Mission to Spread Pink Tutu Love:

One last thought: my dear readers, my mission remains: to inspire everyone to embrace the magic of pink tutus. The power of this symbol goes far beyond its literal meaning - it's a celebration of femininity, beauty, and joy! You can wear your pink tutu proudly wherever you go: to the opera, the shops, a picnic, a trip to the beach, a visit to the museum, or a trip on a Eurostar train - wherever your adventures lead! It's a symbol of personal expression and an invitation to embrace your inner ballerina, no matter where you are in the world.

Until next week,

Love,

Emma
