Pink Tutu Rome: Post 229 - Ciao Bella, Roma!
Wednesday 27th October 1999
Hello darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu wearing ballerina, Emma, back from the eternal city, Rome! I’m so excited to share all my fabulous discoveries with you this week, as I embarked on a whirlwind trip to explore this historical wonder!
As you all know, I adore train travel, and the journey itself was a pure delight. Settling into a plush compartment, my pink tutu twirling around my ankles with excitement, I watched the countryside whizz past, each village more charming than the last. The views of the Italian countryside were breathtaking, a kaleidoscope of lush greens, fiery reds and sun-kissed browns. The only thing missing was a glass of prosecco – maybe next time! 😉
Arriving in the Eternal City
Upon arrival, I was greeted with the quintessential Roman hustle and bustle - an intoxicating symphony of scooters, chatter, and laughter. I felt an instant thrill, knowing I was about to embark on an adventure. It’s always been a dream of mine to explore this ancient city, steeped in history and beauty.
I checked into my little boutique hotel – so quaint, with its stone walls and blooming bougainvillaea. The receptionist was absolutely darling, showering me with kisses on both cheeks and warm smiles, setting the tone for my Roman escapade. The first order of business – unpacking my suitcase and admiring my pink tutu ensemble! This time, it’s a delicate blush pink, perfect for a city walk. I added a chunky black belt for a touch of Parisian chic. Of course, my trusty ballerina bag is never far away, bursting with beauty essentials and a pair of ballet shoes (one can never be too prepared for a spontaneous ballet flashmob, right?!)
Day 1 - A Feast for the Senses
Shopping: My first Roman day was dedicated to retail therapy, because let's be honest, that's practically a cultural requirement in Italy! The streets around Piazza di Spagna were bursting with designer boutiques, each more enticing than the last. I managed to snag a pair of divine red stilettos, and the perfect straw tote bag for my adventures - think Roman gladiator chic. It’s going to be amazing for my next photoshoot at the Colosseum.
Food Glorious Food: One cannot mention Italy without discussing food! My first meal was at a quaint trattoria just off the main square, with the most incredible aroma of fresh herbs and basil. I devoured spaghetti carbonara, every bite a divine symphony of flavors.
Piazza Navona: After lunch, I made my way to Piazza Navona, the centre of bustling Roman life. Street artists showcased their talent, charming tourists with lively melodies and quick caricatures. Fountains bubbled merrily, adding a touch of whimsical romance to the vibrant atmosphere.
Exploring Trastevere: In the evening, I ventured into Trastevere, a bohemian neighbourhood with cobbled streets and candle-lit restaurants. The atmosphere was magical, with the air filled with music and laughter. I even treated myself to a scoop of gelato, indulging in a creamy pistachio flavour that had me humming with delight.
Day 2 – Temples & Tutus
The Colosseum. It's one of those places you have to see to truly believe it! The scale is awe-inspiring, and standing inside its walls, you can almost feel the ghosts of history whispering around you.
A Ballet Dream: Speaking of whispers, a few weeks ago I stumbled upon a rather unusual ballet troupe - it’s called "Balletto di Strada Roma," and they perform modern interpretations of classical ballet around the city. The combination of historical backdrops and captivating choreography absolutely enchanted me. They're holding a special performance at the Forum tonight - can’t wait!
Day 3 - The Pantheon & Papal Power
Today, I indulged in some more of Rome's architectural magnificence. The Pantheon was incredible! That enormous dome, the light pouring in from the oculus... breathtaking!
In the afternoon, I popped by St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City. Honestly, I had no idea it was this vast, ornate, and dazzling! There were paintings and sculptures galore - the entire space was a symphony of artistic brilliance. Even my little tutu was blushing!
Rome – A City that Seduces the Soul
This is just a glimpse into my incredible Roman adventure! I’ll be writing more about my final days exploring the Roman Forum, my enchanting visit to the Borghese Gallery and my unforgettable ballet experience, all on www.pink-tutu.com! So, stay tuned, darlings!
For now, let me leave you with this thought – every place I visit adds another shade to my pink tutu, another layer of magic and wonder to my life. And Rome, with its rich history, vibrant culture and stunning beauty, has surely left an indelible mark on my heart and my wardrobe!
Remember, darlings, you don't need to be a professional ballerina to wear a pink tutu – you just need the courage to embrace the joy and happiness it embodies! Until next time, keep those twirls coming!
XOXO,
Emma
