Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! #247

Wednesday 1st March 2000

Buongiorno from the Eternal City, my darlings! It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another exciting instalment of Pink Tutu Rome, my weekly travel blog dedicated to exploring the wonders of this magical city. And as always, I'm spinning in my most fabulous pink tutu, ready to share all the glittery, enchanting details with you!

This week has been an absolute whirlwind! After arriving by train - my favourite way to travel, it always feels like a magical adventure - I checked into my charming little hotel, just a stone's throw from the Colosseum. Can you believe it? The Colosseum! I practically shrieked with excitement. The history just radiates off its ancient stones. It was simply breathtaking.

Now, let's talk fashion, shall we? Rome is an absolute haven for lovers of chic and stylish clothing. As soon as I stepped off the train, I was whisked away by the intoxicating aroma of leather, the whisper of silk against my fingertips, and the playful twirl of a designer handbag. I found myself wandering through the enchanting streets of the Spanish Quarter, my eyes feasting on the latest collections in exquisite boutiques. And guess what? My trusty pink tutu has become the perfect conversation starter with the locals! They all look at me with curious smiles and playful winks. It’s almost like a little bit of magic comes out whenever I twirl, and I think it’s starting to convince them all to give pink tutus a try. I just have this feeling the world needs a bit more pink and a lot more twirling!

I even had a bit of an unexpected photoshoot in the heart of the Trastevere district. This delightful neighbourhood oozes with cobblestone streets, charming trattorias, and a symphony of street musicians playing vibrant melodies. A lovely artist approached me as I was trying on a gorgeous straw hat from a street vendor. He loved my outfit, my pink tutu, everything, he thought it looked so “magical and graceful,” his words! He even offered to take some photos of me twirling in front of a beautiful ivy-covered wall, and I gladly obliged. He later emailed them to me, and they are truly magnificent - capturing the whimsical energy of this extraordinary city and me in all my pink-tutu glory!

But enough about my stylish pursuits, darling! This wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Rome adventure without some culture, right? So, after a delicious lunch at a cosy little trattoria that made me fall in love with spaghetti al carbonara all over again (the creamy, cheesy sauce! I could bathe in it!), I ventured off to explore the grandeur of the Trevi Fountain. It's truly something else! This iconic monument, a stunning feat of Baroque architecture, had me mesmerised for hours. The sheer size of it was simply awe-inspiring, and I couldn't help but throw in my coin, hoping it would grant me a return trip to this fabulous city!

I managed to sneak in some ballet viewing last night as well. The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma put on a stunning production of Giselle. It was a true ballet lover's dream! The dancers, the music, the stage design – it all came together seamlessly for a truly captivating performance. It was a delightful evening filled with elegance, passion, and breathtaking choreography. Of course, I couldn’t resist twirling along at the end of the performance with my own little rendition of the final pirouette. Some of the dancers seemed to notice me, and they even winked and gave me a little clap as I finished my final spin.

Today, my darling tutus and I will explore the Vatican! You know, Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel? Well, I can't wait to get up close to his magnificent artwork and capture the moment in my little pink tutu-clad memory. I will be posting plenty of pictures later this week. The last thing I will do this week is book my trip back to Rome. I know I will return, again and again, until all of Rome has caught my twirling spirit!

Until next week, stay fabulous, keep dancing, and remember, always be pink!

Love, Emma x
