Pink Tutu Rome #249: La Dolce Vita, Ballerina Style! 🩰🇮🇹

Ciao, darlings!

It’s Wednesday, which means it's time for another installment of my Pink Tutu Rome adventures! Today, I'm feeling so unbelievably chuffed to be writing from the heart of Italy, where the sunshine is dazzling, the gelato is divine, and the charm of this ancient city is just… breathtaking.

As you know, this week's travels are all about the enchanting city of Rome! I flew in yesterday after an incredible performance in Manchester – I danced a particularly tricky pas de deux in The Nutcracker and felt absolutely on fire! And trust me, I need every ounce of energy for this Rome trip.

It’s hard to even describe how exciting it feels to be here, in a place that pulsates with history, art, and culture! And don't even get me started on the fashion! Today, I'm embracing the Italian sunshine with a floaty, pink tulle skirt (naturally!), a beautiful white lace top, and a pair of vintage, coral-coloured wedges. Perfection!

Let's chat about today's itinerary…

After a deliciously decadent breakfast of fluffy croissants and the best espresso at a charming cafe near my hotel, we started our day at the Trevi Fountain. Just like everyone else, I couldn’t resist throwing a coin over my shoulder! Now, my darling readers, I've got my fingers crossed for a quick return to Rome. Fingers crossed it works!

Speaking of history, next we walked to the Pantheon. Can you believe that building is over 2000 years old? It was absolutely mesmerising, with that majestic dome and the perfect, circular design! It was humbling, in a way. It reminded me how powerful and timeless art can truly be.

From there, we strolled through the streets and just soaked in the atmosphere! I mean, every corner in Rome is like a scene from a Fellini film. The ancient ruins mingling with the hustle and bustle of modern life… it's pure magic.

This afternoon, my little sister, Lily, (she’s here for a long weekend – I know, lucky her!) persuaded me to try on some new ballet shoes. Now, let me tell you, Italy has phenomenal dance shops. I discovered this incredible little store in a hidden alleyway – it was like a ballerina's dream come true! I might just have treated myself to a pair of stunning pink pointe shoes (can you imagine, darling?).

And as the evening began, we enjoyed a beautiful picnic in Villa Borghese gardens. The gardens were utterly stunning – a sea of greenery, cascading fountains, and gorgeous statues. I actually caught a glimpse of a young couple doing ballet poses on the lawn, oh, la la! It felt almost like I was on stage myself. And then, of course, the best part… a perfect panoramic view of Rome from the top of the park, sparkling beneath a twilight sky. Honestly, breathtaking doesn't even begin to describe it!

For dinner, we headed to Campo de' Fiori, this charming little piazza teeming with restaurants and the aroma of mouth-watering Italian dishes. My favourite thing was the handmade pasta… honestly, I can't believe how they can get the pasta so perfectly al dente! Lily swears it was love at first bite. And, as for the Gelato, I’ll be honest, I've probably eaten more than I care to admit to. The flavours are heavenly – everything from traditional pistachio and hazelnut to lavender and ricotta.

A bit of Pink Tutu advice…

Rome is truly a dream come true for those who love fashion! And I know a lot of my Pink Tutu darlings have dreams of visiting Rome too, so let me offer you some of my best tips!

  • Dress Up! It's all about embracing the chic, sophisticated style that Italy is known for. Don't be afraid to wear those stunning silk scarves and glamorous accessories.
  • Invest in good walking shoes! Trust me, you’ll do a lot of exploring in Rome.
  • Savor the food! From freshly-baked pastries to traditional Roman pasta dishes – enjoy it all.
  • Get lost! This is one of the best ways to discover the hidden gems of this beautiful city.
  • *Always say *“Grazie mille!" **It’s always polite, and always makes me smile.
  • Embrace the spirit of “La Dolce Vita.” The Italians live their lives with such passion and joie de vivre! Learn a little bit about the language and enjoy every moment.

Fashion Find of the Day: While I'm here, it's pretty much impossible for me to resist indulging in the fashion! This morning, I discovered the most divine pink silk scarf with delicate embroidery. I know it'll be perfect to add a pop of colour to any outfit. It reminds me so much of a butterfly’s wings – light, feminine, and elegant.

Speaking of elegant, I must tell you about my ballet plans! Tomorrow night, I’m booked to see a show at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma – I can’t wait! I've heard their productions are spectacular, and I'm so excited to experience the ballet world here in Rome. And maybe… just maybe, I might be persuaded to dance a few moves on the Piazza del Popolo for a spontaneous, open-air performance. Oh darling, can you imagine how gorgeous that would be?

Well, that's all for this week, darlings. I hope you've enjoyed my Pink Tutu journey through Rome! Remember to check back next Wednesday for more travel adventures from this stunning city. And until then, make sure you keep the pink tutu dream alive!

Ciao, ciao,

Emma 🩰💕
