Pink Tutu Rome: #251 - Ciao Bella! Rome is Calling! 🩰🇮🇹

Wednesday 29th March 2000

Hello my darlings! It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another fabulous #PinkTutuRome blog post! I’m positively giddy with excitement to be writing to you from the heart of Rome. I just had the most magical train journey here – everything in Italy is so beautifully designed, even the trains! Of course, I was perfectly colour-coordinated in a bubblegum pink tracksuit (naturally) and my trusty pink tutu, which had everyone looking and smiling.

Remember when I told you I was heading off on a tour of Europe, dancing my way through each city? Well, here I am! This week’s adventure finds me in Rome, the Eternal City! How much more romantic can you get?!

Roma, Roma, Roma...

First off, I have to say, Rome is even more breathtaking than I imagined. The history! The culture! The delicious smells of food wafting through the air! And then, the architecture! Every cobbled street, every ancient ruin, every cobblestone café is just...well...simply exquisite! I couldn't resist buying a pair of adorable little pink ballet flats to go with my wardrobe for the week - just imagine how adorable I look twirling through the squares!

But enough about me and my shoes (for now! 😉), let's get down to the good stuff - the first thing I had to do upon arriving was experience the Trevi Fountain. And let me tell you, it was truly magnificent! I just stood there mesmerized by the sheer scale of it, watching the sunlight glinting off the water, and dreaming of all the delicious gelato I could buy with the coins I’d thrown in. Did you know you need to throw coins in with your left hand over your right shoulder to ensure you'll return to Rome one day? I did three throws! It was absolutely magical and felt so symbolic of my own romantic heart! I'm telling you, this city just oozes romance!

Ballet Dreams Come True

Speaking of romance, what would a trip to Rome be without some opera? After all, this is where La Scala originated. Of course, I had to get tickets to a fabulous performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. It was absolutely stunning! The costumes were out of this world, and the choreography just flowed with such grace and passion. I actually got a little emotional during one of the scenes - you know how easily I can get swept up by music and passion! I even snuck out to the stage door hoping to catch a glimpse of the principal ballerina, but unfortunately she was already gone, but it didn't stop me from feeling super inspired. Maybe I'll go back for a second show, after all it's only five minutes walk from the Hotel I'm staying in!

Exploring the City of Seven Hills

Since Rome is the city of seven hills, you bet your bottom dollar that I’m exploring each and every one of them! On my travels I managed to find myself right in the middle of the Colosseum! It was honestly so huge, I barely took a photograph as I just felt lost in awe!

Food, Glorious Food

Okay, my dear readers, we all know that I love to eat. And let me tell you, Rome has not disappointed. From the steaming plates of pasta in cozy trattorias to the freshest gelato served in vibrant gelaterias, the food scene here is absolutely to die for! My absolute favourite is the tiramisu, so light and creamy and topped with delicious rich espresso, it was heaven on a plate! I have even discovered some absolutely delicious, vibrant pink gelato. Now that really does put a twinkle in my eye!

The Best Shopping in the World?

Now, this is what every pink tutu loving ballerina looks forward to - the shops in Rome are beyond fabulous! I found myself in a pink paradise, buying exquisite fabrics, elegant hats and exquisite pink feather boas! My suitcases are getting dangerously close to full, I'll definitely have to buy myself an extra case before I head home to Derbyshire.

What I Learnt Today

This week I learned that Rome is a truly beautiful city. A mix of ancient and modern, romantic and elegant. You will just adore it if you're after an amazing travel experience, with endless amazing Italian gelato shops.

That's it for this week, darlings. Stay tuned next Wednesday for another installment of #PinkTutuRome. Until then, be sure to get out your pink tutus and let the world know you're a Pink Tutu Girl. And don't forget to let me know in the comments what you're wearing!

Yours truly,

Emma x
