Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday, 26th July 2000 - Post #268

Ciao Bella!

It's your girl Emma, and guess what? I'm in Rome! The city of love, pasta, and (drum roll) – oh, my goodness! -* the most beautiful pink flowers* you ever did see. I swear, the whole city seems to be celebrating my arrival in a whirlwind of rosy hues. And let's face it, it couldn't be more perfect for this Pink Tutu princess, right?

This week's adventure takes us from the rolling green hills of Derbyshire to the cobblestone streets of the Eternal City, and I’m absolutely living for the change of scenery. It's been a whirlwind of travel, but there's something exhilarating about arriving in a new place, stepping off the train (always the most glamorous mode of transport!), and breathing in the new air. Rome, you've got my heart fluttering like a first arabesque.

Speaking of which, you won't be surprised to hear that I had to squeeze in a bit of ballet action before I could even think of settling in! It's a known fact that you can find ballet everywhere – from the grand stages of Covent Garden to tiny studios in dusty corners of the world. Rome is no exception. And guess what? My favourite dancing shoe retailer just happens to have a flagship store right here. I might have just snagged a few new pointe shoes, a pair of pink sparkly leg warmers (a must for any aspiring ballerina), and even a cheeky little pair of ballet flats to wear for those casual trips to the Roman Forum (don't judge!).

Now, you'll have to admit, the combination of ancient history, breathtaking art, and Italian sunshine practically screams "pink tutu opportunity", right? And wouldn't you know it, a little while later I found myself strolling past Fontana di Trevi (because how can you resist a Roman fountain? Especially one with a rather beautiful water feature!) wearing my signature pink tutu! I knew I wanted a moment of pure joy and excitement, so I did what any sensible (or maybe slightly bonkers) ballerina would do, I started spinning! You just had to be there, honestly. The sun glinting off the water, the stone walls, my twirling in my pink tulle – the Italians practically cheered! Who needs the Coliseum? My moment, right here, was history in the making!

I may not have quite persuaded every single passerby to throw on a pink tutu (yet), but believe me, I was making some serious progress with a whole troupe of young Italian children. And when they're begging you for ballet lessons (all because of a tiny spark of joy, thanks to my tutu), you know you're onto a good thing. It's all about sharing the joy, don't you think? After all, it's not about wearing a pink tutu, it's about wearing a smile, and spreading happiness wherever you go.

As you know, I’m in Rome because I snagged an amazing performance opportunity. Now, I don’t want to spoil the surprise (there's nothing better than a grand reveal, isn't there?), but let's just say that this is a ballet you can't afford to miss! We’re talking renowned performers, exquisite choreography, and some of the most stunning costumes you'll ever see (which, obviously, are being topped by yours truly in a gorgeous new pink tutu). It’s all set for a magical evening – and I’ll be sharing every single detail in my next blog post!

But wait, there’s more!

Because the most magical part about this trip has been my foray into the vibrant Roman fashion scene. Imagine an Italian shopping spree, with stunning leather bags (the perfect accessory to a pink tutu, obviously), intricately patterned silk scarves (never a bad idea to wear to the ballet), and (oh my gosh, I’m practically giddy just thinking about it) a pair of handmade shoes with gorgeous little pink accents! Don’t even get me started on the gelato! Honestly, it’s as if the whole city was created to fulfil all my dreams.

We can’t have a trip to Italy without delving into the culture. So, tonight, we’re off to a little family run trattoria – all because of a sweet old gentleman who offered to show me the most charming hidden alleyway in the heart of Rome. And you know what? The local recipes were absolute perfection – a perfect way to experience the beauty of authentic Italian life!

So there you have it, my dearies. This is Pink Tutu Rome, where even the cobblestones seem to be waltzing in my direction. As I prepare for another day exploring this remarkable city (and indulging in another delicious pizza, naturally!), remember: wear your pink tutu with pride, and keep chasing those dreams, even if they’re leading you halfway across the world!

And to make sure you never miss another pink adventure, don't forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things pink and tutu-tiful! I'll be posting every Wednesday (that’s my day for Roman Adventures!) until next time, my darlings. Arrivederci!

Lots of pink love Emma
