Pink Tutu Rome - Post 277: "La Dolce Vita in a Tutu" (27th September 2000)

Buongiorno, my dearest tutu-loving friends!

It’s Wednesday again, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome blog post! I’m currently sipping cappuccino in the Piazza Navona, watching the artists sketch tourists and pigeons try to steal gelato.

Today I’m buzzing with excitement – we’re taking a day trip out to the magical city of Florence, and trust me, it's going to be epic. Now, anyone who knows me knows I LOVE a good train journey. The rhythmic clink of the wheels, the glimpses of countryside zipping by… there’s just something so wonderfully calming about it, especially in a tutu, of course! It’s all very glamorous, with a touch of Audrey Hepburn in "Roman Holiday" – which, funnily enough, we’re going to watch on our flight back from Rome tomorrow!

This past week has been jam-packed with the kind of activities that make a girl’s heart skip a beat:
*Ballet! Shopping! Performances! Food! *

(Honestly, who could ask for more?)

*Let’s Talk Fashion (and TutUs, naturally) *

We kicked things off at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, where we saw an absolutely phenomenal performance of La Bayadère. It was captivating, the kind of performance that leaves you breathless. The dancers were sublime, their costumes exquisite. I mean, how do they make it look so effortless?

The Teatro dell’Opera was an experience in itself – beautifully ornate and full of historical charm. And speaking of charm, the audience had to be seen to be believed – a riot of colour, style and – wait for it – a few carefully chosen pink tutus (all expertly paired with statement earrings, naturally).

My fashion highlight for the week has been an absolutely stunning silk pink gown that I found in the heart of Rome, a hidden gem in the Pantheon district. I absolutely had to have it – it’s just the perfect shade of bubblegum pink and the silky fabric drapes like a dream. I’ll definitely be adding some more of the delicious Rome flavours to my Pink Tutu wardrobe.

*Adventures in the City of Seven Hills *

Since then, it’s been an endless flurry of exploration. We’ve scaled the Spanish Steps, soaked up the vibrant atmosphere in the Trevi Fountain (a few cheeky wishes thrown into the water, of course!), and enjoyed endless wanderings around the Trastevere district. I feel like I’ve discovered a secret slice of Italy, a place filled with charm, cobbled streets, laughter, and delicious food that I want to eat forever.

One of my favorite moments was stepping into a tiny, little family-run cafe in a quieter street. They only had five tables outside and I swear, I was transported back to a time capsule, everything about it so genuine. You felt the heart of the city beating in this space. I drank cappuccino in the sun, a tutu girl in a coffee haven!

*Oh, The Food! *

The food here has been absolutely incredible – a revelation. Imagine plates piled high with pasta, rich and flavourful, and then you have these pizzas... oh, the pizzas! Seriously, the quality here is amazing! A pizza with a perfect crust and oozing mozzarella and creamy ricotta, all perfectly balanced. Then there are the gelaterias...oh, the gelato… dies and goes to heaven I’ve sampled pistachio, hazelnut, strawberry and... a real must try is “Bacio,” a rich chocolate gelato with an unexpected, delicious hazelnut and cocoa mix – divine!

And for My Last Stop... Florence

Today, however, we're trading the bustling streets of Rome for the cobbled charm of Florence. We’re taking the train – that’s right, a long and romantic journey through Italian countryside - just imagine me in my tutu, looking out the window with a delicious Italian lunch in my lap – it's so romantic and stylish. Florence is calling my name, and it seems she's already laid out the perfect outfit – I'm going to try my hand at recreating a Renaissance-inspired look with a pink tutu – what do you think? I’ll be sharing photos and thoughts on the Florentine journey in my next blog post.

Until Then...

My dearest Pink Tutu-loving friends, keep dancing! And Remember, life’s a ballet, so spin, leap and twirl your way into a tutu-licious adventure.

Love,

Emma
