Pink Tutu Rome #292: Buongiorno from the Eternal City!

Hello darlings! It's Wednesday again, and you know what that means... it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome blog post!

This week, I'm writing to you from the heart of Rome, a city so steeped in history and romance, I'm practically waltzing through cobbled streets in a cloud of pure delight! I can't believe I'm actually here, exploring the city where gladiators once fought and emperors reigned. Rome has a special kind of magic that I haven't experienced anywhere else, and believe me, I've travelled! I'm already picturing myself in a sparkly pink tutu, twirling in front of the Colosseum, a vision of pure Italian elegance.

You see, darling, Rome wasn't always on my travel list. I've always dreamed of Paris, the city of lights, with its elegant boutiques and romantic cafes. But then I realised, Rome, with its rich history, stunning architecture and, of course, the irresistible Italian fashion, was just as alluring. Plus, there's just something so delightfully whimsical about Rome, don't you think? It's like stepping into a vintage movie set, with every turn revealing another picturesque courtyard, ancient ruin or captivating fountain.

Train Travel to Rome: A Ballet of Comfort and Chic

I travelled to Rome by train, of course! I love the comfort and ease of a good train journey. There's nothing like a bit of genteel rocking as you speed through the countryside. And on this particular train trip, I got lucky. There was a fellow ballet dancer on board - imagine! We chatted all the way through the Alps, sharing our love for the stage and, of course, for our favourite pink tutus! There's nothing like discovering kindred spirits on the road, it truly adds a special kind of sparkle to your travels.

The City That Never Sleeps (Or at Least, Doesn’t Want To)

Now, let's get to the meat of the matter, shall we? Rome! It’s been absolutely captivating from the very moment I arrived. The city just feels alive. From the buzz of street vendors selling artisanal crafts, to the rumble of Vespas weaving through the traffic, Rome just pulses with a contagious energy. Even the pigeons seem more chic here, with their air of nonchalant confidence. I’m trying to soak up as much of this incredible city as possible. It’s hard not to get distracted by the charm of each turn, each building, each street. You’ll find me doing my usual routine:

  • Fashion First: Rome, my dear friends, is a fashion paradise! I've already discovered a charming little boutique just off the Spanish Steps that boasts the most divine pastel-pink silk scarf, perfect for twirling around the Piazza di Spagna.

  • Rome’s Ballet Beauty: Of course, I wouldn't be a true ballet-loving blogger if I didn't already beeline straight for Rome's iconic ballet performances. The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, with its gilded interior and stunning acoustics, just screams out for a good pirouette or two. I'm lucky enough to be here on the 10th of January, a day which happens to be the anniversary of the opening of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma back in 1908. Tonight, I'll be watching a breathtaking performance of Swan Lake, which I simply can't wait for. The history, the elegance, the drama - pure magic!

  • History Lessons & Timeless Style: Every step in Rome feels like a lesson in history, each cobbled street, each fountain, each grand building tells a story. From the awe-inspiring Colosseum to the heart-stopping beauty of the Trevi Fountain, I’m already completely in awe of Rome’s rich past. And don't even get me started on the Roman Forum, with its weathered marble columns whispering tales of emperors and gladiators!

  • La Dolce Vita: The Italian lifestyle is something else! It's all about taking your time, savoring life’s moments and enjoying the company of family and friends. I'm already adopting this approach with gusto. It’s all about the slow morning cappuccinos at the cafe on the corner, the long leisurely lunches followed by afternoon strolls and then a vibrant evening of music and conversation.

Pink Tutu Inspiration, Italian Style

Speaking of Italian style, the fashion in Rome has really captured my imagination. The Romans are so effortlessly chic, from the vintage-inspired looks of the ladies at the cafe, to the sophisticated tailoring of the gentlemen who seem to possess an innate understanding of a good cut. They have this kind of subtle elegance that’s just irresistible! I’ve picked up some great inspiration, my dears, and you’ll see me incorporating it into my Pink Tutu Wardrobe soon! Just you wait and see… You might just spot a hint of Roman charm in my upcoming ballet performance.

On The Agenda for Today: A Tour of the Eternal City

This week's itinerary is full of beautiful activities! Today, I'm planning on touring the city, starting with a walk to Piazza Navona, which just bursts with history, artistry, and oh, so much street life. You can bet I'll be adding that to my Instagram! Then, I’m going to take a gelato break, which, I’ve learned, is mandatory here in Rome. You have to be a bit adventurous with flavours, especially if you are at one of the legendary artisan gelaterias like Gelateria del Teatro. Tonight, of course, it's off to the Swan Lake performance at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma!

Stay tuned next Wednesday for more pink tutu adventures in this incredible city! And tell me, darling, what are you dreaming of today?

Sending you love and sparkly wishes from sunny Rome!
