Pink Tutu Rome: A Valentine's Day Waltz Through The Eternal City!

#PinkTutuRome #297

Ciao, darling readers! It's Wednesday, so that means it's time for another instalment of my Roman adventures on www.pink-tutu.com. This week I'm swirling into Valentine's Day with a delightful twirl around the Eternal City. My last blog post left you with the picture of me gracefully hopping off a train at Rome Termini station, all my pink-tutu-clad self, ready to conquer the cobbled streets. And conquer I did!

Now, you might be wondering how a ballet girl like me funds these adventures? Well, you'd be surprised! I'm not just a ballerina with dreams of sugarplum fairies ā€“ I'm also a bit of a businesswoman. My performances (which are, by the way, totally tutu-tastic!) are my magic money-making ticket to travel the globe!

So, back to Romeā€¦ This city, my lovelies, is like a fairytale sprung to life. From the minute I stepped out of the station, I was engulfed in a sensory explosion of romance and history. Everywhere you look, thereā€™s an ancient ruin, a breathtaking church, a cobblestone street echoing with the patter of your own twirling shoesā€¦ Or perhaps it was just me in my sparkly pink tutu adding to the atmosphere of joyful mayhem!

A Valentine's Day Romance in Rome

Yesterday was the 14th, and let me tell you, Valentineā€™s Day in Rome is absolutely divine. Picture it: the sun setting over the Colosseum, casting its golden light on a hundred little cafes, filled with couples enjoying delicious pasta and vino. Every restaurant had its doors open, spilling out into the street, creating an enchanting maze of twinkling lights, flowers, and candlelit tables.

I couldnā€™t resist, of course, and treated myself to a glass of prosecco on a terrace overlooking the Trevi Fountain. Watching the moonlight dance on the water and the coins tossed by hopeful lovers was a magical experience, enough to melt even the coldest of hearts. It wasn't a fairytale romance exactly, but for this lonely ballerina, a night out, especially in Rome, is certainly magical!

A Day for Loversā€¦ and Shopping!

As if that wasn't enough, I'm lucky enough to be staying in a boutique hotel, right on the edge of the Spanish Steps! It's filled with charm and, shall I say, "pretty, pretty, pretty pink"! The manager, Giovanni, has made a valiant attempt at introducing a touch of pink into his businessā€¦ but so far, the dĆ©cor remains firmly in the ā€œburnt Siennaā€ range. However, I have taken matters into my own hands ā€“ and you just know my pink ballerina-themed accessories will bring some much needed sunshine into Giovanniā€™s world, one pastel shade at a time!

Speaking of sunshine, I am utterly delighted to tell you, darlings, that I discovered a fabulous Italian designer, who creates the most gorgeous pink tutus for a whole range of dancers. Not just for the ballet ā€“ she makes them for everything from hip-hop to Flamenco! You can even order custom-made pieces ā€“ Imagine, a pink tutu inspired by Roman architecture!

After my morning of pink tutu-hunting (and you can be sure that my tutu got its fair share of attention!), I headed for the Palazzo Barberini and the Galleria Nazionale dā€™Arte Antica, which, frankly, has to be the most glamorous art gallery in Rome! Just imagine a grand ballroom full of Renaissance art and you have it! A perfect spot for a princess to relax, right? (I even found a portrait of a lovely lady in pink who definitely needed a tutus! - Iā€™m still mulling over sending a sample to the curator - maybe she will let me "borrow" it for a week).

A Valentineā€™s Day Ballet

After my museum trip, I had one last treat ā€“ an incredible ballet performance at the Teatro dellā€™Opera di Roma. I mean, can you imagine, a ballet show in one of the worldā€™s most beautiful opera houses! They were performing ā€˜Giselleā€™ and the costumes, darling, were spectacular! The dancers were so beautiful and the performance absolutely flawless. I canā€™t wait to see more shows while Iā€™m here!

Now, itā€™s not all glamour and champagne in the Eternal City! This afternoon I am visiting the Pantheon, one of the most beautiful examples of Roman architecture, which is said to have been constructed by the Gods themselves (if I had an impressive architectural talent, I would consider dressing in pink). Iā€™ve also got plans to explore the Trastevere district, which is supposedly overflowing with charming little shops and restaurants. I shall report back on my culinary discoveries next week ā€“ can I suggest cannoli ā€“ theyā€™re delicious with a bit of pink champagne (another hint to Giovanni)!

But before I go, let me leave you with a few of my pink tutu-tastic Roman tips:

  • Embrace the ā€œPink Tutu Attitudeā€. Go exploring, be curious, take pictures, and let your love for the colour pink be your guiding light. Because, truly, this city is full of endless romance, artistic wonders, and delicious food and drinks (though I think pink should make more of an appearance).

  • Be prepared to be awed. The scale of this city will take your breath away, but in the very best way possible. From the iconic Trevi Fountain and the Roman Forum to the Colosseum and the Borghese Gallery, Rome is a feast for the senses and will have you swirling around its wonders with glee.

  • Wear comfortable shoes! This city is meant for walking!

  • Remember your camera! Rome is such a visual delight youā€™ll want to capture every moment, every piazza, and every pink-tutu-tastic outfit on this magnificent city, you wonā€™t be able to get a selfie stick past the Trevi fountain.

  • Have fun! You canā€™t visit Rome without giving in to the sheer joy of this fabulous, timeless city. So go forth and discover all the secrets Rome has to offer! Oh! and try that cannoliā€¦

Till next Wednesday, Stay pink, darling!
