Pink Tutu Rome: #298 - Ciao Bella!

Wednesday 21st February 2001

Buongiorno, darlings!

It’s Emma, back from a whirlwind of pink-tinted excitement in the Eternal City. This week, the #PinkTutuRome tour continues, and I can tell you, Rome has utterly captivated me. From the moment my train pulled into the station (a magnificent journey, let me tell you - so much more relaxing than flying!), I knew this was going to be a truly special adventure.

I’ve been so busy exploring ancient ruins, sipping espressos, and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere that it’s taken me a little while to catch my breath and put pen to paper (well, keyboard!).

Rome, a Ballet Lover’s Dream

Right, first things first, I've got to talk about the ballet! Let’s be honest, what better way to experience Rome’s rich cultural scene than through its glorious ballet traditions? I’ve been fortunate enough to catch a couple of breathtaking performances this week. The first was at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. It was a captivating production of Giselle, with absolutely stunning choreography and dazzling costumes. My heart was nearly dancing out of my chest - the passion on stage was electrifying!

Of course, my pink tutu made an appearance, sparkling against the crimson velvet seats. A couple of nearby gentlemen actually stopped their conversation mid-sentence and simply pointed at my tutu. Well, a few of them blushed a bit after seeing my dazzling smile. But honestly, what could be more lovely than being the centre of attention?

Shopping & Chic in Rome

My favourite shopping day this week was a total blast. Rome is just made for fabulous finds, and I managed to get my hands on a few incredible pieces - a chic silk scarf with the Colosseum printed on it and a vibrant red beaded bag. My love affair with Italy just blossomed even further! And I have to share - the vintage fashion boutiques here are absolute heaven! So much potential to discover one-off pieces that'll make a fabulous statement at my next performance back in Derbyshire.

Of course, every #PinkTutuRome escapade includes a generous dose of indulgence! The gelato, oh my goodness - that creamy texture, the vibrant flavours... A heavenly symphony for the senses! It wouldn’t be a proper Roman experience without indulging in delicious pastries and a glass of crisp Italian white wine in the evening. Every bite is just perfection.

Rome's Hidden Gems

Rome, even beyond the main tourist hotspots, is a city that is brimming with treasures. This week I’ve been wandering through tiny side streets, discovering hidden piazzas, and relishing the feeling of discovering little pieces of local life that really make the city come alive.

One of my favourite experiences was finding the little bakery where I had the most incredible fresh, warm pizza in a tiny side street. They had tables set up outside with umbrellas and the owners were so kind and welcoming. It truly felt like a little slice of Italy I'd discovered just for myself.

Oh! And the architecture! It is magnificent, really breath-taking. I found myself stopping every five steps to admire the buildings - every doorway, every arch, every little detail - I even had a little moment when I gasped at the Colosseum because it was so monumental!

Fashion in the Eternal City

Of course, a girl can’t spend all her time with art and food. A true fashionista has to pay a visit to the famous fashion houses! I found myself at the Dolce & Gabbana store. It was all silk, feathers, and fabulousness! Just browsing there felt like I was taking part in a glamorous film! My pink tutu would have fit right in - especially in their showstopper pink gowns!

Now, Rome isn’t all about the famous, there are some fabulous street fashion looks here. So many bold choices - people daring to mix and match, experimenting with textures and colours, with so much panache and confidence! It's really inspiring. I couldn’t resist snapping some photos to show off on my Instagram feed - always happy to find those fashion muses!

Sharing the #PinkTutuLove

Now, darlings, I’m always striving to share the joy and confidence that wearing a pink tutu brings. While walking through the busy streets of Rome this week, a young girl was standing by the side of the road with her mother. She was dressed in a little pink dress - the same shade as my tutu! She seemed shy, watching all the people around.

A moment of magic happened! I caught her eye, gave her the biggest, brightest smile, and she instantly beamed back at me. And what did she have in her hand? A small, sparkly pink butterfly. She waved it at me, her little face radiating happiness. That small, simple moment - sharing the #PinkTutuLove - meant everything. It reminds me that pink tutus aren't just a fun accessory - they're a reminder to let your light shine and embrace all the joy the world has to offer.

Travel Tales: Trains and More

So, after another glorious day of ballet, sightseeing, shopping, and embracing all things pink, I’m now settling back into my quaint hotel room (with a balcony that has the most amazing view of the city!), catching up on my notes and getting ready to hit the streets again tomorrow. I’m going to try and catch the early morning bus to explore Trastevere, one of the most enchanting neighbourhoods in Rome, I’ve heard.

But first - an early night with my travel journal and my favourite travel book. I can’t believe how fast the time has flown! But I’m so grateful to be here, absorbing all the wonders Rome has to offer, and embracing each and every moment.

Join me next Wednesday for a new dose of #PinkTutuRome adventures on www.pink-tutu.com!

Stay stylish, darlings!

Emma
