Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2001-04-25 - Ciao Bella!

Oh, hello my darling darlings! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink-loving, tutu-twirling travel blogger, and I'm bursting with excitement to share all about my whirlwind trip to Rome! I'm so in love with this beautiful, ancient city!

You know me, I love exploring by train. My trip began with a whistle-stop journey through the heart of Europe, the scenery just blurring into a romantic blur of rolling hills, majestic mountains, and charming villages. It felt like something straight out of a ballet! I felt every bit the travelling ballerina with my trusty, hand-stitched, hot pink tutu tucked neatly in my bag. It’s such a great talking point!

I always take my tutu wherever I go, just for those moments when I want to twirl. Just a little twirl now and then, you know! And it does wonders for blending in with the locals - they’ve definitely never seen anything like it in Rome, but they’re all so charming and curious, especially when I stop and pose for pictures!

Buongiorno Roma!

Landing in Rome was pure magic! The warm air, the beautiful buildings and that unmistakable, spicy scent that only Italy seems to have – I knew I was home. The taxi dropped me right in front of the Hotel Quirinale, and the bellboy took my bags – pure glamour. They even had a pink umbrella waiting for me, just in case. What service!

Now, for you seasoned travellers, you’ll understand that shopping is a must in Rome, especially for a girl who loves her fashion! I’m not talking chain stores here, no way! Think boutique shops bursting with hand-made shoes, sparkly fabrics, and gorgeous dresses in every shade of pink you can imagine!

I discovered this absolute gem of a store, Il Forziere nestled down a quaint, cobblestone street. You know me and my pink obsession - they had the most amazing pink velvet bag! It’s the perfect shade, oh my goodness, just the kind of bag to take with me everywhere, you just know it!

A ballet lover's dream

Of course, being a ballet fanatic, Rome is truly a dream come true! I’m going to see a performance by Roberto Bolle, and he’s a superstar. The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, a truly stunning, opulent venue, is the backdrop for this amazing spectacle! I can't wait to watch him move across that stage.

This place really is magic – they even have an incredible ballet school, just around the corner from my hotel. And let me tell you, the dancers are spectacular, and I can’t wait to catch one of their classes, if they'll have me! You just can’t miss a ballet class, it’s practically a tradition when I’m travelling.

But today's about soaking in the sights, of course! The Colosseum, a huge stone ring of history – incredible! I was blown away by the beauty and history just everywhere I turned! I felt like a princess straight out of a fairytale, twirling through time, which I must say, is not at all difficult in Rome!

Food, glorious food!

You just cannot go to Rome without trying the food. I'm absolutely obsessed with their gelato! The flavours are insane, and there’s always a tiny shop around the corner just bursting with fresh ingredients! This city smells of herbs, spice, and garlic - a truly sensory feast for all your senses, it’s heavenly! I’m on a quest to try every single flavour!

Today, though, I indulged in a little taste of pasta perfection in a lovely cafe overlooking the Trevi Fountain. Now that fountain is something else! It’s a must for anyone visiting Rome.

Twirling under the Tuscan sun

Of course, no trip to Italy would be complete without a touch of the romantic Tuscany! I took a lovely little day trip to Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, a whirlwind journey, filled with art, culture and an afternoon tea with a stunning view over the Tuscan countryside!

The colours, oh the colours! So bright, vibrant, it’s almost impossible to keep still! My pink tutu even got some jealous looks from a bunch of beautiful Florentine ladies at the cafe – guess they just hadn't discovered the magic of a tutu, you know! They were practically twirling with me by the time I left! I just love spreading the pink-tutu gospel.

Now, I'm all ready to hop onto the next train and see where my journey takes me. Who knows what magical adventures await?

So until next week, my sweet darlings! Don't forget to follow me at www.pink-tutu.com, every Wednesday for a new travel diary and plenty of pictures, fashion inspiration, and a little bit of pink tutu magic. You can even catch my ballet performances at local theatre and venues! Just let me know where you’d like me to go!

I’ll be right here, ready to inspire you all to don your pinkest tutu and follow your dreams!

Until next week, stay glamorous and keep twirling!

Love, Emma xx
