Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2001-08-01 - Ciao Bella!

Helloooo my dearest Tutu Twirlers! This week on Pink-Tutu.com it’s time to pack our bags (and of course our trusty pink tutus!) and head to the Eternal City - Rome, baby! This is my 321st post - can you believe it? I’m so glad you’re all joining me on this journey!

It’s hard to believe that just a few hours ago I was on the train hurtling towards Rome, my favourite pink tulle flowing gently in the breeze, leaving behind the rolling green hills of my lovely Derbyshire. Train travel, that glorious rumble of the tracks, that exciting feeling of being swept away towards the unknown… I’ll admit it - I absolutely adore travelling by train.

Now, Rome, as you all know, is absolutely dripping in history! I've just stepped out onto the platform at Termini station, and even the air seems to hum with a thousand whispers of emperors and gladiators! The air is hot, thick and deliciously spicy – a perfect match for my new fuchsia linen dress and hot pink feather boa! You girls just know I had to pack at least two tutus in my luggage, a bright pink one, naturally, and a silvery white tulle, perfect for a graceful night out on the cobblestone streets!

My week in Rome promises to be full of delicious discoveries – from visiting the incredible Coliseum, to gracing the stage with a special performance at the Teatro dell'Opera! I just can’t wait to share it all with you!

Rome – Where Ancient History Meets Fashion Flair!

This city, oh, this beautiful, breathtaking city! From the moment I walked out of the station, it was clear - I had stumbled into a world of romance and timeless beauty. Every street corner seems to burst with stories. It's no wonder that famous designers are constantly inspired by this city. I mean, just take a look at the Pantheon – imagine the exquisite, simple grandeur of that structure influencing your next collection!

And speaking of collections – Rome’s shops are an absolute fashion feast! Yesterday, after a delicious lunch of pasta and a gelato (a pink one, of course!), I found myself swept up in the whirl of the city’s many boutiques. My eyes lit up with a special find in a vintage shop – a gloriously pink feather boa from the 1950s – now this will add a fabulous dash of Italian flair to my upcoming performance!

But beyond the glamour, Rome is filled with heart - from the friendly faces of locals at quaint trattorias, to the serene beauty of churches. Yesterday afternoon I lost myself in the intricate mosaic work at the Basilica di San Clemente and was mesmerised by its sheer beauty. Later, I visited the Forum, the heart of the Roman Empire, and felt a shiver down my spine as I imagined gladiators clashing in this very arena centuries ago. It's both overwhelming and humbling to stand in the presence of such immense history.

Preparing for My Show - Ballet on the Tiber!

Tonight I have a special performance lined up – an outdoor ballet under the stars! I am absolutely buzzing with excitement about this, I’ve been training hard for it - ballet class, every single day! As soon as I saw the Tiber River, I knew this is where I wanted to dance. Can you picture it – me in my twirling pink tutu, illuminated by the golden moonlight, as the Tiber flows by like a liquid ribbon? This performance is going to be truly magical.

Speaking of pink… you can bet my tutu for this special performance is a real stunner - imagine a flowing cloud of rose-gold tulle, sparkling with delicate sequin detailing. The perfect outfit to bring out the glamour and grandeur of ancient Rome!

I've been getting some excellent tips from some very friendly Italian dancers. Did you know the ‘Scuola di Ballo del Teatro dell'Opera di Roma’ offers ballet classes in all styles – classical, modern, and contemporary – even for beginner ballet fans? Well, that got me inspired - maybe we could have a little ballet party back in Derbyshire after I return? What do you think, my darling Tutu Twirlers? I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

The Heart of Rome

Rome, my darlings, has captivated me! There's a captivating charm to its chaotic beauty, the history woven into every cobblestone and the buzzing energy that courses through its streets. The gelato, by the way, is even more delicious than I imagined – I've had pistachio, chocolate, hazelnut, strawberry... there's a gelato shop on every corner! The perfect indulgence after a long day exploring – oh, the gelato… how I could get used to this lifestyle!

Oh, and I have an exciting secret to share with you! While shopping for souvenirs – pink of course, always pink – I discovered a delightful little workshop run by a very talented Italian artisan. He creates the most exquisite custom-designed shoes! I'm getting a pair of sparkly ballet shoes in a beautiful pale pink shade. I can't wait to show you all!
