Hello my darlings! It's Emma, your resident Pink Tutu traveller, and this is post number 326, straight from the heart of Rome, Italy! Can you believe it's been a whole year since I started this little blog? The journey's been absolutely fabulous, and the response has been beyond my wildest dreams! Every Wednesday, my pink tutu and I whisk you off to a new, exciting location, and today's adventure is a real Italian fairytale.
Remember those magnificent Tuscan countryside photos from last week? Well, today, I'm taking you to the big city - the Eternal City of Rome itself! It’s such a buzz here - cobbled streets filled with laughter, the enticing aroma of freshly baked pastries wafting in the air, the sound of street performers playing their hearts out, and of course, the iconic Roman landmarks like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain, which is so incredibly beautiful, you feel like you’ve stepped into a film.
Today, after my breakfast of delicious, flaky croissants (that were, quite honestly, to die for!), I grabbed my trusty camera, donned my most vibrant pink tutu and embarked on a whirlwind tour of the city, taking in everything Rome had to offer!
First on the agenda, the Colosseum, and wow, this monument is simply majestic! I couldn’t help but imagine the gladiators battling it out in its arena all those years ago. The history surrounding it was palpable, the sheer size of the structure just astounding. My photos from there will be posted to the Pink Tutu gallery, don't miss them, darlings!
Next, I explored the charming winding alleyways of Trastevere, which were crammed with traditional Roman trattorias, chic boutiques, and artists showcasing their works. It’s such a lovely, vibrant, creative place – there’s an electric atmosphere that makes you want to just stay and soak it all in!
The Pantheon was next, and wow, its breathtaking. Standing within its grandeur, gazing at its beautifully engineered dome, was just breathtaking. The sunlight streaming through the oculus, casting a warm glow, made me feel almost angelic – the perfect place to unleash a little twirl in my pink tutu!
Then, I headed towards the heart of Rome: the Trevi Fountain. Now, my darlings, I know what you’re thinking, but you simply cannot go to Rome without throwing a coin into the fountain to guarantee your return, and I’m a believer! I was surrounded by giggling tourists, all hoping for the same, and the fountain's magnificence was hard to capture in words, it was like something from a dream. The artistry, the scale, and the power of its story… It truly made me feel humbled.
The afternoon, of course, wouldn’t be complete without some indulgence! The shopping scene in Rome is to die for, darling! The beautiful leather goods, stunning scarves, handcrafted jewellery – it was overwhelming. And the boutiques - bursting with gorgeous clothes! After much deliberation (I really couldn’t resist!) I bought a beautiful silk pink scarf with delicate flowers on it – perfect for a breezy evening promenade. Then, my stomach starting rumbling, and my darling, there's a little, cute Italian restaurant I found called "Il Pasticcio" right next to the Trevi Fountain. They do the best spaghetti carbonara, and they have a delectable selection of desserts, oh my! My absolute favourite was the tiramisu.
Evening descended upon the city as a beautiful red sunset splashed across the horizon, setting the ancient stones aglow. The Roman air had this magic to it, that seemed to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. It’s no wonder they call it the "Eternal City" - it’s truly captivating!
Now, you may wonder about my evening. Well, dear reader, this evening is an absolute highlight of my Rome adventure! There's an amazing, traditional, and historic Italian theatre called "Teatro dell'Opera di Roma." Tonight, they are putting on an exclusive production of the Italian masterpiece: "Pagliacci". It's going to be sensational! I can barely contain my excitement, and I'll be back tomorrow, ready to share all the details.
I truly believe, darlings, that travel is all about seeing new places, savouring delicious cuisines, soaking up different cultures, and connecting with new people - and a pink tutu certainly brightens up any adventure! Rome, you are captivating and utterly charming, I just know I'll be back soon.
