Pink Tutu Rome #350: La Dolce Vita, Baby!

Ciao bellas!

It's your girl, Emma, here, back from a whirlwind week in Rome! It was absolutely divine, just like a dream. As I sit here in my little Derbyshire cottage, surrounded by the gentle sounds of the countryside, I can still almost hear the soft tinkling of fountains and the vibrant laughter of the Romans. And yes, I am still wearing my trusty pink tutu - even in my quaint little village, a girl's gotta stay true to her signature look, right?

This trip to Rome was a bit of a pinch-me-moment for this tutu-loving blogger. Not only did I get to soak up the sun and the sights, but I also landed a dream gig – a guest performance at a charming little ballet studio in the heart of the city! How fabulous is that?!

Now, I know what you’re thinking – ballet in Rome? Absolutely! This ancient city is a vibrant cultural hub, and ballet, of course, holds a special place. And speaking of cultural hubs, did I tell you I saw Roberto Bolle in action?! Oh, the beauty, the grace, the power! He's a legend, darling! Seeing him perform at the Teatro dell'Opera was pure magic – a truly awe-inspiring experience. The stage, the costumes, the audience – everything about it was simply magnificent.

But this Rome adventure wasn't just about ballet, oh no. Fashion! As you all know, I love a good bargain, and the Roman boutiques were practically calling my name. The leather bags! The chic, bohemian dresses! I may have bought a few things, but it was all for research purposes, you understand! I simply must find the most fabulous tutu-inspired outfit to show you all back in Derbyshire.

Rome, darling, is a city that captivates all your senses. It’s like stepping back in time with its ancient ruins and cobblestone streets, while also feeling thoroughly modern with its chic boutiques and trendy cafes. And I truly embraced every single bit of it. From sipping on espresso at bustling outdoor cafes, to taking in the beauty of the Vatican City and the Colosseum, to trying authentic Roman pasta dishes that I can barely pronounce, every day was an adventure.

Now, before you go and think that this prima ballerina has just been dancing and shopping the days away, I must assure you I did indulge in my fair share of cultural discoveries, too. And on 20th February, 2002, I had the immense pleasure of experiencing a little bit of Roman history in action. The Pantheon, that remarkable dome-shaped wonder, stood proudly before me, its timeless elegance defying the centuries. The ancient Romans were so very clever, don’t you think? I also wandered through the Forum, taking in the remnants of an incredible era, feeling a profound connection to the people who once walked these very streets. I even stopped for a coffee at a charming little cafe in the Piazza Navona. They have the best coffee in the whole city!

You know, when I’m in Italy, I feel like I can almost touch history, breathe it in, feel it on my skin. It’s truly magical, and something I highly recommend everyone experiencing at least once in their lives!

Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without indulging in the cuisine – oh my, it’s simply delicious. I couldn’t get enough of the creamy carbonara, the succulent gnocchi, and the refreshing limoncello. Honestly, it was enough to make this ballet bunny swoon.

Did I mention I travelled by train? Yes, darlings! I always love a good train journey, especially across Europe. There's just something so romantic about it, gliding through different landscapes and towns. This journey from Derbyshire to Rome was just as beautiful as I imagined, and the Italian train staff were so very kind!

One of my favourite moments of the trip was taking a stroll around the beautiful gardens of the Borghese Gallery – so peaceful, so elegant. It felt like I’d been transported to another world. I think it was the combination of the gentle sunshine, the blooming roses, and the incredible art that took my breath away. But then again, Rome is full of little moments that just take your breath away, don't you agree?

But the absolute highlight of the trip, hands down, was that performance in that beautiful ballet studio in Rome. The audience was warm and appreciative, the energy in the room was electric, and it just felt like magic – something I will never forget! I even received the most lovely bunch of roses from a very handsome Roman gentleman afterwards. So much chivalry!

Speaking of chivalry, dear readers, have you all bought your pink tutu yet? If not, what are you waiting for?! Don't you want to embrace your inner ballerina, spread a little joy and a whole lot of pink across the world?!
