Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Post #367)
Buongiorno from Rome, my darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu blog post, straight from the heart of the Eternal City. I've got a confession to make: I'm utterly smitten with Rome. It's like stepping straight into a historical drama, and not just any drama - one filled with romance, intrigue, and a touch of glamour! And wouldn't you know it, I'm even channeling the Roman Empire's sense of style, my lovely pink tutu feeling absolutely right against the backdrop of cobbled streets and ancient ruins.
Today, 19th June 2002, feels like a dream come true. After a wonderful train journey from Derbyshire (which, of course, involved a tutu-wearing pitstop at York for some essential shoe shopping โ those Italian leather boots were calling my name!), I'm settling into my hotel room in the heart of Rome. It's quaint, full of charm, and has a balcony overlooking a bustling little piazza โ perfect for people-watching! And yes, even here in Italy, my pink tutu seems to have caught a few curious glances!
Rome, as everyone knows, is overflowing with history. Iโm already planning my itinerary for the next few days. First up: a visit to the Colosseum, where the gladiators fought in the past โ I'm sure itโs a much more dramatic and colourful setting than my usual ballet rehearsals! Then, it's off to the Trevi Fountain to toss in a coin and wish for a return trip. (If I'm being honest, my wish is for a shop with the most exquisite Italian tutus!)
But even amongst the ancient marvels, it's the fashion that has truly captivated me. It seems that Italians are all about embracing colours, textures, and flamboyant accessories. There's a real air of confidence and individuality here that truly makes me want to embrace my own inner style. Don't get me wrong, my pink tutu will always be my go-to choice, but exploring new styles is all part of the adventure.
Speaking of adventures, last night, before heading to bed, I sat in the piazza for a moment, just enjoying the sound of the city and people around me. I was truly in awe of Rome. Itโs full of history, beauty, and a kind of captivating magic, reminding me of my love for the theatre and performing. I couldn't resist letting loose with a few pirouettes โ for an audience of a startled cat and a confused, yet bemused, waiter who, Iโm sure, will remember the dancing tutu girl from Derbyshire.
There's a real spirit in Rome, a sense of life lived in full. I can definitely feel that I am in a place where my inner dancer feels at home. The cobbled streets, the ornate churches, and the passion of the local people all seem to be urging me to twirl and twirl with abandon!
The excitement is already building! Next up on my Roman adventure, I have my eyes set on exploring the Spanish Steps (I'm picturing them as the perfect setting for a ballet photograph), exploring the Galleria Borghese and its exquisite sculptures (there's no harm in finding inspiration for a future Tutu Ballet, is there?), and of course, indulging in a delicious Roman lunch with my favourite pasta dish: Cacio e Pepe! I can just imagine the pasta clinging to my tutu. The thought of it all brings a giggle to my lips!
However, no matter where my adventures in Rome take me, I can guarantee one thing - my pink tutu will always be by my side! It's my personal symbol of happiness, a symbol of following my dreams, and of expressing myself with confidence and joy!
I'll be sure to bring you more tales from my time here in the coming weeks! Keep an eye out on my blog each Wednesday, and let me know in the comments what your favourite memories of Italy are.
Until next time,
Emma xxx
