Pink Tutu Rome: #371 - A Roman Holiday!
Ciao Bella! It's Emma here, ready to whisk you away to the Eternal City, Rome, for a week of fabulous discoveries! This is the third week of my Roman escapade, and I've already crammed in a whirlwind of sightseeing, shopping and of course, some delicious pasta! And let me tell you, my trusty pink tutu has been a true star of the show, twirling its way through piazzas and posing with statues!
(Spoiler Alert: There are pictures. Lots of them. You have been warned.)
This week's blog post is coming to you direct from a quaint little café tucked away in a quiet alley just off the Via Condotti. As I sip my cappuccino, watching the city come to life around me, it strikes me: Rome is all about romance, history, and, well, let's face it, amazing food. I wouldn't mind getting lost in these charming cobbled streets for another thousand years, especially with my trusty pink tutu by my side!
Fashion Spotlight
This week has been all about Italian style - so I've traded my usual street ballerina aesthetic for something a bit more classic. Imagine me, a delicate blush pink tutu paired with a sleek white blouse and flowing navy skirt - it's an unexpected but utterly divine combo!
I even found the most charming vintage boutique yesterday, crammed with luxurious silks and sparkling jewels. Of course, I couldn't leave without picking up a little something, a gorgeous scarlet scarf that pops against my pink!
Rome, the History Nut
One of the highlights of this week was exploring the ancient Colosseum. Stepping into this majestic amphitheater, where gladiators once fought, was truly breathtaking! The size is staggering, the stonework exquisite, and I must confess, I spent a good five minutes doing a grand jeté pose by the entrance! The whole experience had me feeling like a true Roman Empress!
Artful Adventures
Another must-see was the Galleria Borghese, with its incredible sculptures and paintings. I was especially captivated by Bernini's "Apollo and Daphne" – a sculpture that perfectly captured the energy and drama of the story. Afterward, I took a walk through the lush Borghese Gardens. These aren't just your regular park! These were meticulously designed, and they offered incredible views of the city. It was perfect for my pink tutu to perform a few pirouettes on the lawn, surrounded by nature's beauty!
Ciao, Bella, Bella Pizza!
No trip to Rome is complete without experiencing the culinary magic. Of course, I had my fair share of delicious pizza, pasta, and tiramisu - all of them truly magnificent! This week I also discovered a tiny trattoria hidden away in a backstreet. I stumbled upon it while on my way to a ballet class, (I find the perfect spots for ballet class, honestly. Even with a limited travel budget!) It offered the most delectable lasagna I've ever tasted.
The chef, an older gentleman with kind eyes and twinkling spirit, gave me a hug after I devoured the last bite! Turns out, he loves ballet as well! It was just one of those lovely, magical, Roman moments you don't find just anywhere.
My Pink Tutu Travels: Train Travel!
Oh, the joys of European train travel! It's so much more scenic, relaxing and allows you to see so much of the country you are in. This week, I took a train from Rome to the seaside town of Ostia Antica! I packed my trusty pink tutu and my camera (that never leaves my side!). You can't travel through this picturesque countryside and not record it all for posterity!
It’s actually much more convenient and less stressful to get around Europe on the train. You simply pack a light, cute rucksack and off you go!
A Week of Wonder
Rome has been a symphony of colors, sounds, and flavors. Each corner, each alley, tells a story. The people, so warm and welcoming, have added a unique charm to my travels. It's hard to describe just how much I'm enjoying this Roman experience, but my pink tutu says it best with its wide, twirling skirt and cheeky smile!
This week was full of sunshine and laughs! The days have been spent wandering through ancient ruins and strolling through flower-filled piazzas, while the nights have been dedicated to incredible performances in this glorious city.
Until next time, from Derbyshire to Rome,
Emma
