Ciao bella! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome blog post! I'm absolutely buzzing about my time in Rome. The city's just bursting with culture, fashion, and a sense of old-world glamour. It’s everything a pink tutu-loving ballerina could ever wish for.
It feels like a lifetime since I last took the train across the Channel from my little Derbyshire town, suitcase full of pink tutus and dance shoes, ready to conquer a new city. This time, it's the Eternal City, Rome! My recent ballet performances in Bristol and Leeds have gone swimmingly and provided me with enough pennies to fund this Roman adventure. It's amazing what a girl can achieve when she combines passion and perseverance. And of course, it helps that pink tutus seem to be in demand these days, all thanks to yours truly, of course!
I arrived on a gloriously sunny Monday morning. Stepping off the train, my heart started pounding with excitement. My accommodation is charming and quaint, just a stone's throw from the Trevi Fountain, and you can almost touch the Colosseum from my window! It's a dream come true to be surrounded by such incredible history.
My Roman Itinerary
You wouldn't believe the activities I have planned. I'm aiming to see and do it all, so strap in!
Thursday: The Colosseum and the Roman Forum - I can't visit Rome without experiencing the grandeur of the Colosseum. It's simply a must-see! I'm also keen to explore the Roman Forum and picture those fascinating scenes of gladiatorial combat and the daily hustle and bustle of the ancient Roman life.
Friday: Art and Architecture - It's not all ancient history here. I've got a date with Michelangelo's David and some masterpieces by Raphael at the Vatican Museum. Plus, who could miss the grandeur of St Peter's Basilica? The perfect opportunity to wear my favourite pale pink dress with a delicate lace trim.
Saturday: A Night at the Opera - Of course, my Rome trip wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the opera. I can already feel the thrill of a captivating performance as I wander through the corridors of Teatro dell’Opera di Roma!
Sunday: Fashionista on the Spree! - This city has fashion dripping from every cobblestone! I’m spending Sunday getting my fashion fix in the glamorous boutiques of Via Condotti and Via Frattina. Can't wait to discover what incredible designer creations are waiting for me. My pink tutus deserve some company!
Monday: Exploring the Markets - A journey into the heart of local life awaits. I’m exploring the vibrant markets and experiencing the taste and aroma of authentic Italian delicacies!
Tuesday: Rome on Two Wheels - There's something so romantic and whimsical about riding a bicycle. I'm picturing myself whizzing past ancient ruins and iconic landmarks, pink tutu flowing in the breeze. Oh, the photo opportunities!
And guess what? I discovered something exciting about Roman history – believe it or not, there’s a strong connection to the ballet!
A Tale of Two Ballerinas
Rome has been the muse of many, from poets to artists and even ballerinas! The Italian ballet scene flourished in the late 19th century, with famed ballerinas like Virginia Zucchi performing on grand stages in cities like Rome, Venice, and Naples. And she even wore pink tutus, but I'll let her share that secret, she might still be around!
