Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 31st July, 2002 - Post #373
Ciao Bella!
The Roman sun is blazing down, reflecting off the cobbles like a million tiny jewels. And as usual, yours truly is dancing through the streets of Rome, in my trusty pink tutu, of course. It's practically an extra limb at this point. This is blog post number 373 for Pink Tutu Rome, and I'm still having a ball!
This week, the "ball" took me right into the heart of the city. Rome is a city bursting with life - the hustle and bustle, the chattering of locals, the aroma of freshly brewed espresso... It all makes me want to twirl! Which, as you all know, is exactly what I do! I've been spinning, prancing, and generally enjoying my Roman escapade, stopping at each stunningly beautiful vista for a few pirouettes.
This week was packed full of wonderful events, but let's rewind a bit first...
Arriving in Style
This week, I made the journey to Rome by train. There's something magical about hopping on a train, leaving behind the everyday worries, and letting the world pass by. It's like stepping into a scene from a storybook - the clack of the wheels, the murmur of conversation, the occasional burst of sunshine streaming through the window. I was in my element. Oh, and you guessed it - my trusty pink tutu, a vibrant beacon of pink loveliness amongst the beige seats! I've started noticing how my tutu has become my own personal 'Welcome To My World' banner. Whenever I see a slightly perplexed expression, followed by a gentle smile, I know the Pink Tutu has done its magic again.
Opera Extravaganza
In Rome, no trip is complete without seeing a grand opera. I was so excited to experience this cultural phenomenon! It felt like I’d stepped back into history, like a forgotten princess on her first night at the opera. The venue was majestic, adorned with velvet and gold, every corner exuding an air of ancient elegance.
This performance was simply breathtaking. The soaring voices of the singers, the elaborate sets, the vibrant costumes... it felt like I'd been transported into another world. Even the dramatic flourishes – and a generous amount of gesticulating – added to the visual feast! Of course, no Pink Tutu escapade is complete without a personal twist. I brought a sparkly pink clutch with me, and strategically placed some tiny pink feathers around the edges of my tutu. It really completed the look and, of course, drew a few extra smiles and nods of approval.
Foodie Adventures
Eating in Rome is a joy - from creamy gelato that melts in your mouth, to wood-fired pizzas with fresh ingredients, and a huge, varied, and beautiful selection of cheeses and fruit... it's simply heaven for the senses. One afternoon, I found myself in a cute little cafe, sipping espresso with the locals and trying to decipher some of the menu with my very basic Italian.
Even the locals seemed taken by the pink tutu! I had several people ask for a photo. I told them my name, what the tutu represents (because why wouldn't I?!) and the Pink Tutu wave. They loved it, of course! It's almost become my global handshake – twirling and sharing joy and kindness.
Fashion Fiesta
Rome, oh Rome! You’re such a city of fashion! My little Pink Tutu heart flutters a bit with each and every shop I see. This week was dedicated to finding the perfect little sundress. It has to be pink, it has to twirl beautifully, and most importantly, it has to be perfect with my tutu! And wouldn’t you know it? I found the perfect little frock in a quirky, hidden shop, with embroidered flowers and ruffles galore.
This was definitely the time for pink shoes, so I treated myself to a pair of pretty pale pink sandals. They're the perfect complement to my new dress. This shop also sold stunning jewelry - pink beads, delicate silver chains, sparkling gemstones… the possibilities were endless! Of course, I had to add a beautiful necklace with a pink pearl to my collection!
The Pink Tutu Travels: A Bit About Me
For those of you just discovering Pink Tutu Rome, let me tell you a bit about myself. I'm Emma, a twirling, dancing, fashion-loving 20-year-old ballerina from Derbyshire, England. You see, my aim in life is pretty simple. I want to get everyone to wear a pink tutu! Now, I’m not talking about forcing anyone! My pink tutu, for me, is a symbol of positivity and joy – of embracing your inner self and feeling free!
I love to explore the world, to see new sights, experience new cultures and of course, try new twirls in new environments! Each week I write this blog, sharing my travels with you – a bit like sharing my journal, filled with exciting tales from across the globe. I’m fortunate to make a living from my love of dance. I perform regularly – both in ballet productions, and on the street – sometimes even at public gatherings and even the local market. That’s how I fund my wanderlust – sharing the gift of dance, of music, and of joy with as many people as I can.
If you have an inner tutu just itching to be unleashed, if you love travel, if you love dance and music, or if you love the colour pink, well, then you’ve come to the right place!
So, what about next week, I hear you ask? Well, I can't give too much away, but I am already preparing to make my way towards some fascinating sights and stunning locations. Who knows where the Pink Tutu might twirl next!
Stay Tuned!
Yours in Pink, Emma
