Pink Tutu Rome #382: A Ballerina's Dream Come True! 🩰🇮🇹

Ciao, darlings! It's Emma from Pink Tutu, and I'm finally writing to you from the Eternal City! Rome. Oh, Rome! The thought of exploring ancient ruins, sipping cappuccinos in piazzas, and soaking up the Italian sun had me twirling with excitement all the way here. This week's adventures have been truly divine, and you simply must hear all about them!

As a ballet girl at heart, I have to tell you, my heart fluttered with excitement as the train rattled along the tracks, bringing me closer to Rome. You see, darling, this trip was all about the ballet, as much as it was about the shopping (because let's be honest, a ballerina’s gotta look her best!). On this Wednesday in October 2002, I was in Rome for the Opera House's prestigious ballet season! Now, I'm sure you can imagine the thrill!

But before we delve into the world of ballerinas, let me give you a sneak peek into my Roman wardrobe. Think sunshine-yellow palazzo pants paired with a delicate blush pink silk camisole and my trusty pink tutu, of course! Rome was calling for vibrant colour and light fabrics. You can just picture it - me gliding through the streets, a pink cloud of tulle amidst the Roman sunshine. Every passerby, I’m sure, looked at me in awe. "Look, look!" they might have whispered, "She's the girl in the pink tutu!" My mission, darling, is to make pink tutus a global phenomenon!

Now, let’s get back to the ballet. It wasn't just any performance. Oh no, this was the grand, the legendary, "La Scala Ballet"! A truly iconic dance company that has stolen my breath for years, known for its grace and elegance. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Each performance was a spectacle of pure artistry. The ballerinas floated across the stage, their leaps seemingly defying gravity, their costumes glittering like jewels. The energy of the music, the passion in the movements, and the audience’s gasps of delight – all of it just took my breath away.

As I mentioned, the ballet wasn't the only highlight of this week. Rome, dear readers, is a city that steals your heart, literally! Its cobbled streets, vibrant piazzas, and historic landmarks have an undeniable charm. We wandered through the Colosseum, picturing the gladiatorial battles that took place centuries ago. And then we threw a coin into the Trevi fountain, ensuring a return trip to this magical city, of course.

I discovered the most charming little boutique near the Spanish Steps – it had the most stunning collection of Italian linen dresses and palazzo pants. I fell in love with a silky, mint green maxi dress, and imagine my delight when I found a gorgeous pink clutch bag to go with it! It perfectly matched my pink tutu, don’t you think? My trip to Rome wouldn't have been complete without a visit to a market.

Let me tell you, the food is just exquisite. Fresh pasta, delicious pizzas, and decadent gelato - Rome truly knows how to treat its visitors! I think I gained a few pounds from indulging in all those delightful treats, but it was worth it. And just as I had a feeling, shopping for those amazing new ballet shoes that are perfect for dancing under the Roman sky proved impossible! I simply had to make room for them in my suitcase.

Now, before I sign off, I must share with you my most favourite memory from this week: I watched a local group of ballet dancers perform in a beautiful park. The way their movements blended seamlessly with the background music, under the Roman sun, was just magical. I felt such a sense of joy, and it reminded me that ballet is truly a universal language, and that wherever I travel, there’s a place for my pink tutu.

Rome, darling, has left me utterly enchanted. It's a city that will forever hold a special place in my heart. The city's charm, its culture, the ballet, the shopping, the gelato – everything was simply perfetto! So, keep an eye on my blog for more pink tutu adventures. Ciao for now, and keep dancing!
