#PinkTutuRome: Wednesday, 2002-10-30 - Ciao Bella! A Ballet-tastic Rome Adventure!

Hello my darlings, and welcome to #PinkTutuRome, my weekly adventures in the Eternal City! It's Wednesday, which means a fresh post for you lovely lot! This is blog post number 386, and believe me, this week is gonna be a swoon-worthy one!

You know I love my travels, and Rome has truly captured my heart! Every corner bursts with history, beautiful buildings, incredible art... it’s the perfect backdrop for a tutu-tastic time! You know me, I couldn't resist a cheeky little twirl at every monument I saw - and honestly, they all made the most fabulous stages. Just imagine! The Colosseum? Picture me pirouetteing amidst the ancient stones, a swirl of pink tulle catching the Roman sun. Chef's kiss Perfection!

Speaking of twirling, I actually had the chance to join a ballet class in Rome this week! It was absolutely brilliant, set in a beautiful studio in the heart of the city. Let’s just say the Roman sun added some extra zing to my pliés! They definitely had a bit more sass than my usual Derbyshire classes!

But the real highlight? This week, the Opera house has a performance of Swan Lake! I absolutely can’t wait! It's my absolute favourite ballet, and watching it in Rome? My inner ballerina is squealing with delight!

Before I get all flustered and babbling about my love for Tchaikovsky (don’t judge, he’s a legend!), let's dive into what I’ve been up to in this incredible city.

Pinktastic Fashion Finds

First things first - shopping! My first stop was a little boutique near the Pantheon, and they have the most divine vintage clothes. I swear, you could spend a whole day in there! You know I adore a bit of sparkle and fluff, and let's just say my suitcase was already a bit overflowing... I simply couldn't resist the temptation! I found this gorgeous, flowing lavender silk dress, perfectly matching the blush pink I bought for my Rome ballet class. I imagine, as I write this, a fantastic photoshoot in some gorgeous Roman garden... a girl can dream!

Food, glorious food

Rome is a foodie’s paradise! Let's be honest, even I, who lives for a good ballet shoe or sparkly hair accessory, can't resist the charm of a steaming bowl of pasta, freshly made and coated in the most luscious tomato sauce. Oh my goodness, the aromas of freshly baked bread wafting through the air… I might have had one too many gelato cones (they are, of course, a necessary part of a healthy diet… at least that's what my doctor told me…!) And speaking of sweets… Did I mention the amazing tiramisu?

Cultural Cuteness

Okay, now onto some of the beautiful historical sights I’ve been enjoying this week.

  • The Colosseum is even more impressive than you imagine! Those ancient stones, the stories they tell! I honestly spent ages just staring, trying to absorb all that history. And you can imagine, a whole bunch of photo ops ensued. My pink tutu twirling in front of those imposing arches, what a classic!

  • The Trevi Fountain - You just can't leave Rome without tossing a coin in! It’s a little tradition for good luck and I do have a few ballet performances lined up that need a little divine intervention!

  • The Vatican - The sheer beauty and grandeur are breathtaking! Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, the marble sculptures, the frescoes… it was an absolute sensory overload! They even have their own version of swan lake - it was a ballet masterpiece in the form of stained glass. A truly inspiring piece of artwork.

A Dance Under the Tuscan Sun

Remember that ballet class I mentioned earlier? It was fantastic! It reminded me how much joy I get from simply moving my body to music, even if it is sometimes, just in my living room back home. Rome has given me such a renewed appreciation for dance.

I am heading to a Ballet Performance at the Rome Opera house, it's Swan Lake for heaven’s sake, it's a real treat for my tutu-loving heart! Can't wait to see those delicate steps and the beautiful artistry. You bet I’ll be rocking my new lavender dress – a splash of colour for a truly magical evening!

#PinkTutuRome is a dance journey you don't want to miss!

Come along for the ride! Every Wednesday I will be sharing my adventures right here on www.pink-tutu.com. Keep up to date on all things #PinkTutu, and feel free to comment, share your travel tips and, if you are ever brave enough… join me for a twirl! I truly believe everyone can embrace their inner ballerina! Until next week, stay glamorous!
