Pink Tutu Rome: Week 403 – Darling, Rome Is Calling!
Hello my gorgeous darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Rome! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another fabulous instalment of my adventures in the Eternal City!
As you all know, I absolutely adore travelling by train. It's just so wonderfully civilised, isn't it? Sipping on a little tea, watching the countryside roll by... it truly sets the mood for a glorious trip. So, when I set off from Derbyshire this week, my pink tutu perfectly preened, I was positively bouncing with excitement. Rome, here I come!
Now, Rome is one of those cities that truly knows how to capture your heart. It's brimming with history, art, culture… and, of course, amazing food! My heart did a little skip when I first saw the Colosseum, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun. Honestly, it's even more majestic than I imagined, and just looking at it, I could practically hear the cheers of the ancient gladiators!
After settling into my quaint little hotel near the Trevi Fountain (oh, to be in a whimsical, storybook hotel!), I embarked on a most delightful exploration of Rome's fashion scene. I’m all about discovering independent boutiques and charming vintage shops, where I can find truly unique treasures to add to my ever-growing collection of pink tutus and ballet-inspired fashion. And believe me, darlings, Rome doesn’t disappoint!
My first stop was the enchanting "Il Piccolo Ballerino" (The Little Ballerina) – a shop overflowing with beautiful ballet shoes, leotards, and even tutus! Oh, I practically did a pirouette when I spotted a shimmering pink tutu with delicate sequined snowflakes – absolutely divine! It's practically calling out for a snowy scene in a winter ballet! Of course, I had to snatch it up - it's the perfect ensemble for my upcoming performances in the heart of Rome.
My next stop was a divine vintage shop near the Piazza Navona called "The Time Capsule." It's stuffed with the most incredible vintage pieces - I could spend days exploring it. Imagine my glee when I unearthed the most fabulous pink feather boa! You just can't find this sort of treasure at the High Street.
But of course, it's not just about shopping! Every evening I find myself in a delightful new spot for some fabulous ballet-inspired entertainment! On this, Wednesday, 26th February 2003, I discovered a real gem. I popped along to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma for their performance of "The Sleeping Beauty". It was a masterpiece! The dancing was flawless, the costumes were breathtaking (and just the right amount of pink!), and the music simply transported me to a fairytale land. I almost choked on my champagne during the "Rose Adagio" - such exquisite grace and elegance. Every single moment was an absolute dream.
And guess what? Right after the performance, I saw a gorgeous ballet student dancing along in the piazza with her friends! It was a joyous scene of laughter, twirls and arabesques, lit by the shimmering night sky. She even had a little pink tutu on, and let me tell you, it was practically radiating. It reminded me that ballet is more than just a performance – it's a passion, a language, a way of life! I had a lovely little chat with her about her passion for ballet. It was a really inspiring conversation.
The best part is that Rome itself feels like one giant stage. With every street corner and hidden alley, you discover another captivating story, another hidden treasure. From the towering Colosseum to the ancient Pantheon, to the fountains and squares that erupt with music and laughter, there's simply an undeniable sense of joy and inspiration. I feel so much alive and inspired in this wonderful city. My muse has been positively dancing!

Until then, darlings, keep twirling and always remember: Life is a ballet, so embrace the rhythm, live with passion and, of course, don't forget your pink tutu!
Sending love and pink sparkles!
