Pink Tutu Rome: #411 ā€“ The Eternal City of Tutus and Toilettes

Hello, darlings! Itā€™s Emma here, writing to you live from the most magical city in the world: Rome! This is post #411 in my Rome adventure blog, and this week, weā€™re exploring the ancient heart of this glorious place, uncovering its hidden treasures, and indulging in its delicious food (yes, I found the perfect pizza place!).

For those of you who are new, Iā€™m Emma, and Iā€™m a ballerina from Derbyshire, England. Iā€™m obsessed with all things pink and sparkly, and of course, I never travel anywhere without my trusty pink tutu!

This weekā€™s Roman escapade began with a whistle-stop journey through the countryside. Train journeys are truly one of lifeā€™s pleasures, donā€™t you think? Being able to just relax and watch the world whiz byā€¦ such a peaceful experience. Itā€™s the perfect time for some quiet contemplation (or admiring the latest magazine, but we donā€™t talk about those šŸ˜‰) .

The scent of jasmine and lemon blossoms met us at the station, and my heart fluttered with excitement. Iā€™m here to explore the hidden corners of Rome, the ancient history, the breathtaking architecture, the delectable food... all whilst trying to get as many Romans as possible to don a pink tutu, of course!

We arrived at our charming little boutique hotel in Trastevere ā€“ all cobbled streets and flower-filled balconies, itā€™s straight out of a movie. I just had to squeeze in a little tutu twirl in the courtyard. After all, a ballerina has to practice!

Now, I know you're all dying to hear about my first adventures in the Eternal City. Hereā€™s a peek:

The Colosseum: An Ode to Grandiosity

On Wednesday morning, the sun rose over the magnificent Colosseum. Oh, what a sight! The sheer scale of this ancient wonder is simply breathtaking. Itā€™s an impressive testament to Roman ingenuity and architectural prowess. We spent a whole afternoon wandering the ruins, picturing the gladiatorial combats that once took place there, the roar of the crowds echoing in my imagination.

The Colosseum itself was captivating enough, but I couldnā€™t resist a cheeky photo opportunity, naturally. A classic pose in front of this historic wonder, a perfectly pirouette, with my pink tutu catching the sunlight. The crowds applauded my ballerina tribute!

A Fashionista's Paradise: Via Condotti and Shopping Splurges

If you are anything like me, and you canā€™t resist the lure of fabulous fashion, you HAVE to add Via Condotti to your list! This shopping street is a true fashionista's haven, with every designer boutique imaginable. I couldnā€™t resist trying on the latest collection of feather boas at Prada ā€“ just imagine, a perfect accessory for a night out on the town, donā€™t you think? (Iā€™m thinking about investing in a hot pink one myself! What do you think?)

But I am also on a budget, after all, I finance my travels through ballet performances. Thankfully, I did find some amazing deals at some independent boutiques - itā€™s a hidden treasure trove for anyone who loves a bit of a bargain! I also found a delightful little antique shop tucked away on a side street - an absolute gem. It reminded me of a scene out of a Jane Austen novel, and I snagged some fabulous vintage scarves for my tutu collection (yes, I have a whole collection of matching tutus and scarvesā€¦ my sartorial life is very well-organized šŸ˜‰).

A Theatrical Treat: Teatro dellā€™Opera di Roma

Rome is bursting with cultural riches, and I just had to see a show at the magnificent Teatro dellā€™Opera di Roma. We attended a performance of ā€œLa Traviataā€ - the beautiful costumes, the passionate performance, the sheer emotion of it all. I'm talking swoon-worthy moments here, folks! I almost started pirouette-ing myself. If you ever get the chance to see an opera in this theater, I implore you to take it!

Flavors of Rome: A Feast for the Senses

I canā€™t even begin to describe the food! We dined like Romans, exploring hidden trattorias and tasting the delights of fresh pasta, melt-in-your-mouth cheeses, and mouthwatering seafood. I found the most divine gelato, a strawberry-and-pistachio masterpiece that made my day (yes, the colours matched my outfit perfectly! )

Speaking of matching colours, I discovered the cutest little boutique that specializes in everything pink ā€“ pink hats, pink scarves, even pink shoes! I have to admit I may have gone a bit crazy in thereā€¦ šŸ˜‰

Sunset Stroll and The Promise of More

The evening found us wandering through the cobblestone streets of the city. As the sun began its slow descent, the light bathed the buildings in a soft, golden glow, making Rome seem like it was taken straight out of a fairytale. We strolled through the Piazza Navona, surrounded by the lively bustle of the evening crowds. The scent of flowers filled the air, a mix of jasmine and roses, creating an intoxicating, romantic aroma. The street performers danced and played their music, filling the square with the joyful sound of music.

With its magnificent architecture, delicious food, and charming atmosphere, Rome is a city that will steal your heart. Every corner holds a story, every building whispers of ancient history. Iā€™ve only scratched the surface of this beautiful city. Next week, we're going to explore the Vatican and soak up the atmosphere of this magnificent treasure trove of art and culture.

Donā€™t forget to check back next Wednesday for a brand new update on my adventures here! I promise there will be more stunning photo opportunities, more pink delights, and even more tutu-inspired moments in the Eternal City!

Until next time,

Love, Emma xo www.pink-tutu.com
