Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 8th October 2003 – Ciao Bella!

#435

Well, darling readers, I’m finally in Rome! I've just arrived at my gorgeous little hotel room and I have to tell you, it's just divine! It's all in shades of pink and lilac – just my style, obviously! The hotel itself is tucked away in a little cobbled street and it has the most charming little courtyard with bougainvillea trailing across the walls. Honestly, I feel like I've stepped into a fairytale.

I’m bursting with excitement for all the fun that’s going to happen this week. Rome has just called out to me, begging me to come and experience its beauty. You see, it's all part of my big dream to travel the world in a pink tutu. And I can't imagine a more perfect place to embrace the glamour than the Eternal City! Rome just exudes romance, history and an undeniable chicness that simply has to be experienced.

This trip is the perfect reward after the gruelling rehearsals for our Nutcracker production back in Derbyshire. I mean, you know me – I absolutely adore performing. It's all so exciting; the costumes, the music, the audience's rapt attention…and let's not forget the amazing feeling of taking the stage in my pink tutu. So much pink! It’s what gives me the energy to save for these fantastic adventures.

Anyway, enough about me! Rome is waiting, and I have a whirlwind of sights to see and experiences to share with you.

Day 1 – Rome by Rail and First Impressions

Today, after arriving at Termini Station in Rome, I had the most magical journey by train to Trastevere, this gorgeous neighbourhood with its quaint little piazzas and cobblestone streets. I have to say, I adore trains – all those clicking wheels and whistling signals, the ever-changing scenery. I’m a big fan of that whole vintage travel romance vibe!

Speaking of vintage, I picked up a beautiful floral scarf with little birds in a local shop by the station. The colors are just perfect: blues, reds, greens, a bit of ivory... oh, and there's even a hint of pink! It will look fabulous against my pink tutu, you just wait!

We’ve just arrived in my hotel, the lovely Hotel Santa Maria, where my lovely Aunt Patricia, bless her, is staying too. It is SO great to have a fellow fashionista around for a bit of shopping inspiration. I just have to say she has a real eye for a fabulous bargain. We are already plotting to head out in search of those unique pieces that capture the very essence of Rome. I’m looking for something that embodies all that glamorous Italian style, you know?

After a quick rest and a refreshing glass of Aperol Spritz, Aunt Pat and I are off to dinner! I’m starving after my long train journey, and I can’t wait to sample some of those legendary Italian delicacies. Can you guess what’s on the menu, darlings? It has to be spaghetti carbonara! Oh, I have such high hopes!

To be continued…

But darling, this is just the start of my Roman adventure. So much more to come, you know! Tomorrow is all about seeing the sights and feeling the buzz of this phenomenal city. Follow my adventures here every week at www.pink-tutu.com! I can't wait to show you all the incredible things I discover.

Ciao for now!

The Pink Tutu Look

As always, my outfits are the star of the show! And trust me, I always bring my best pink tutus. In Rome, I think a delicate, layered, tulle tutu would be just perfect, but this time, it needs a twist!

Today, it’s the classic black and white check maxi-dress I love so much, topped with the vintage floral scarf, but you just wait until I get to my vintage leather jacket with a whole host of pin badges. A black straw hat with a black bow adds to the Parisian chic feel, and oh yes, I will, of course, be wearing pink ballet flats with a delicate black ribbon, a pop of colour that brings it all together, as ever! The bag? Pink, naturally.

That’s all from me for this week, darling readers.

Stay stylish!

Emma
