Pink Tutu Rome: #468 Buongiorno Bella! Wednesday 2004-05-26

Ciao Bella! It's Emma here, writing to you from the heart of Rome, a city bursting with ancient wonders, cobbled streets, and an atmosphere that makes you feel like you've stepped into a film set!

This week I'm absolutely buzzing because I've finally landed in this amazing city, after a scenic train journey from Venice (which, by the way, is so romantic). Remember, you can read about my adventures in Venice by checking out the archive on www.pink-tutu.com. It's like a whirlwind tour of fabulous fashion, decadent architecture and the best gelato this side of the Alps! Speaking of whirlwinds, that's what a train journey through the Italian countryside felt like! Picturesque views flashing past the window, sun-drenched vineyards, charming little villages and the scent of jasmine wafting in through the carriage. It felt just like a fairytale, only with slightly more Italian flavour.

Rome… well, this city feels like I've landed on the set of a historical drama. The ancient Roman Forum is practically right there in front of me and I just can't wait to see the Colosseum! It looks just as majestic in real life as it does in the history books. Imagine the gladiator battles and the sheer grandeur of it all!

To start the day, I knew a trip to Rome needed to involve some serious shopping and what better place to start than the Piazza di Spagna? It's just divine, with the famous Spanish Steps leading up to the stunning Trinita dei Monti church. I picked up the most fabulous pair of pink platform heels – the colour was perfect - it perfectly matched my new bright pink floral summer dress. I’m thinking I will take my latest Tutu creation to a performance on the steps this afternoon, they would look absolutely stunning against the ancient backdrop!

Oh, speaking of performances, I must tell you about the incredible ballet show I saw last night! A local theatre group put on the most spectacular performance of Romeo & Juliet. It was utterly mesmerising and they had a cast of beautiful dancers. I nearly choked on my gelato at the sheer passion and talent on display. There was one particularly heart-stopping moment where the dancers gracefully floated over the stage. It left me spellbound and yearning to join the action on stage! Of course, the best part was that it meant a beautiful ballet dress had to come along with me on this trip! Now, what to wear today… decisions, decisions….

This morning I went to a delicious cafe near the Pantheon. It was so romantic with tables spilling onto the cobblestone street, a little fountain bubbling in the corner, and delicious Italian smells filling the air. Oh, and let’s not forget the divine coffee. To be honest, the latte was the highlight of my morning!

I can already see that I am going to fall in love with Rome. This city truly embraces a slower, more elegant pace of life. I can't help but think a Tutu and some ballet inspired clothing would blend perfectly with this sophisticated and classic vibe. In fact, imagine a street performance right on the Spanish Steps…. There are just so many amazing places in Rome, just waiting to be adorned with a twirling ballerina and a splash of pink! I feel it’s time to put together a performance in one of Rome's charming squares….

I'm already thinking about where to head tomorrow and which other magical Italian cities to explore. I can't help but feel a little jealous of all the amazing history in Rome. But, don't you worry! I'll keep you updated on all my latest adventures here, and don't forget, you can follow me on www.pink-tutu.com. Ciao for now, and remember – wear pink!
