Pink Tutu Rome: A Ballerina's Diary - Wednesday 8th September 2004 (Post #483)
Ciao, darlings!
Welcome back to another exciting episode of Pink Tutu Rome! I'm writing to you today from a little cafe in the heart of Rome, just a skip and a hop from the Trevi Fountain, where I've just indulged in the most delicious cappuccino – topped with a little swirl of cream, naturally!
It feels like a lifetime ago I was back in Derbyshire, strolling through the Peak District with the wind in my hair and the scent of honeysuckle in the air. Now, I'm here in the Eternal City, basking in the sunshine, breathing in the history and the culture.
I landed yesterday afternoon after a whirlwind journey on the Eurostar, it truly is the most fabulous way to travel! The anticipation and the excitement really gets me in the mood for exploring, and Rome, my darlings, is an explorer's paradise.
Before I tell you about my Roman adventures, I want to mention how grateful I am for all the support I'm receiving from my readers. My website, www.pink-tutu.com is blooming and so is my Instagram, you know. It's all thanks to you, my dearest readers, and the love for pink tutus, it really seems to be catching on!
The week's earnings from my performances back home really helped to get this trip off the ground. Being a ballerina has its advantages, even when it means packing up my dance shoes and leaping across continents in pursuit of inspiration.
Right then, let's talk about my Roman discoveries!
Firstly, the shopping! Oh, my darlings, you wouldn't believe the gorgeous frocks I've found! A fabulous fuchsia silk dress for the opening night at the Teatro dell'Opera, a heavenly pale pink tulle skirt for a moonlit picnic beneath the Trevi fountain and a stunning array of scarves and accessories for every occasion! I even managed to snag a divine little pink beret, oh la la! I must have you see a picture of it, I look so chic!
Fashion in Rome is as dramatic and captivating as its ancient history. Every street is a catwalk, every window display a scene from a couture dream. And, of course, I've found some lovely little boutiques overflowing with tutus! One, called "La Ballerina", was just delightful. They have an absolutely fabulous collection in pink, naturally! I felt like I’d stepped into a tutu wonderland, and couldn’t resist adding a couple to my wardrobe, just to inspire a few new dancers back in Derbyshire.
Now, onto my cultural conquests!
Rome is a museum in itself, a testament to centuries of history, artistry and grand architectural achievements. It's absolutely magical, especially when it comes to art and culture. You can practically smell the passion in the air. Yesterday, I spent hours marvelling at the Roman Forum and the Colosseum, feeling the echoes of history whisper through the ages. The scale of those monuments, the intricate designs and the sheer weight of history are truly awe-inspiring!
This morning, I paid a visit to the Vatican. It's quite frankly the most incredible place I've ever seen! Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel… just breathtaking.
There was something for everyone – history, art, beautiful architecture – and even a little fashion inspiration in the incredible costumes worn by the Swiss Guard!
For lunch, I popped into the cutest little cafe tucked away on a quiet cobblestone street, complete with terracotta pots filled with Geraniums spilling over. I had a scrumptious pasta dish with a glass of locally grown wine, all while listening to the delightful Italian conversations swirling around me. It truly is a symphony for the senses!
Tonight, I am heading to the Teatro dell'Opera for a ballet performance! A truly unforgettable event! My dress will be the most glamorous one in the entire audience, I’ll let you see a photo of that in next week’s post, of course!
As always, thank you for joining me on this whimsical journey! Don't forget, life's too short for boring outfits, so let's spread the joy and twirl into the world wearing a pink tutu!
See you next Wednesday for more pink adventures from sunny Rome!
Ciao, darlings!
Emma
