Pink Tutu Rome: Post 503 – January 26th 2005: Mamma Mia! It’s Rome!

Ciao bella!

It’s Emma here, back from my whirlwind trip to the eternal city! Well, not entirely whirlwind just yet. I'm still buzzing with excitement after arriving in Rome by train yesterday and getting settled in at the cutest little hotel just around the corner from the Colosseum. It's full of floral wallpaper and fluffy pink cushions, just perfect for this little pink-loving ballerina.

Getting Here: A Train Trip to Remember

Rome, you've stolen my heart! It all began with a rather wonderful train journey from Derbyshire, across the Channel and down through Europe. I love travelling by train! There’s something so romantic about settling into a carriage, enjoying the scenery fly past and chatting with fellow travellers (who doesn’t love a bit of a train journey adventure!). The best part? I found the most beautiful new scarf at a charming little stall in the Gare du Nord in Paris - think intricate silk embroidery in shades of lavender and cerise with a touch of sparkle - perfect for a Parisian street performance later on!

Roman Nights: The Perfect Mix of Culture and Chic

My first evening in Rome was utterly divine. After unpacking, I stepped out into the warm evening air and the buzz of the city instantly swept me away. I'm not sure what was more stunning, the city bathed in golden lamplight or the gorgeous outfit I put together for the evening - a blush pink tulle tutu layered over a sparkly midnight blue sequin top and some silver platform sandals. (I'm keeping a travel diary, of course, so I can write down all my outfit combinations and recreate them when I’m back home!).

Shopping Until I Drop: The Fashion Fiesta Begins!

I could barely resist stopping at every boutique and vintage shop on the Via del Corso! (The windows are all decorated with beautiful florals and twinkling fairy lights - it’s like a dream!) The vintage section of the local department store had some treasures waiting to be found – think satin blouses with puff sleeves and lace details, oh-so-chic! And it’s almost time to upgrade my pink tutu collection with a new statement piece! There’s this exquisite lavender tutu I’ve had my eye on – delicate layers of hand-stitched tulle and a shimmering gold waistband. Maybe I’ll indulge in some ballet shoes with it as well... a girl needs new dance shoes for Rome!

An Evening of Elegance: A Ballerina’s Paradise!

I’ve booked myself a ticket to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma to see La Traviata! You can’t come to the city of opera and not immerse yourself in a beautiful production. Oh, the sheer artistry and spectacle! My heart nearly exploded from the combined emotions – the costumes, the music, the storytelling. (Not to mention all the wonderful opera singers who, to put it simply, made me want to twirl for hours on end!).

Finding Inspiration: A City for Dreamers

Rome really does inspire me in every way. Every street corner, every ancient ruin, every corner café tells a story, ignites a spark of creativity, encourages me to dream big. You feel the history everywhere you look, the energy from the countless generations that came before you. Perhaps that's why it's so hard to pull away from the beauty of Rome!

Pink Tutus and Roman Dreams

I'm dreaming of swirling in my lavender tutu amongst the ancient ruins – perhaps even by the Trevi Fountain. And what better place to get everyone on board with my ‘Pink Tutu for All’ campaign than here in Italy!

This city, this beautiful vibrant energy, has left a little sparkle in my soul, and I’ll be carrying it back with me, spreading the pink tutu message in every town I visit. Until next week’s blog, don’t forget to be bold, be brave and dare to dream – you just never know what might be around the corner, just like Rome revealed itself to me on this magical Wednesday afternoon!

Ciao, bellas,

Emma x
