Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 31st August 2005 - Ciao Bella, Italy! (Blog Post #534)

Hello my gorgeous pink tutu darlings! It's your favourite ballet blogger, Emma, reporting live from the heart of Rome! As I write this, I can practically feel the warmth of the Italian sun on my face and smell the intoxicating aroma of freshly brewed coffee. It's pure magic, darling!

This week, I decided to take a little detour from the world of Derbyshire, swap my comfy train journeys for a journey by high-speed train, and venture to this enchanting city of Rome. Honestly, it was a dream come true! Imagine the feeling of the wind rushing past you, the scenery whizzing by, and me in my trusty pink tutu of course! It felt as if I were twirling through time.

This journey was made all the more exciting because it’s part of my exciting new ballet project. I'm thrilled to be collaborating with the amazing Italian Dance Company, who have invited me to teach a special 'Pink Tutu Ballet' workshop!

It's a little dream of mine to share my love of ballet and of course pink tutus with the whole world. The Italians have been incredible! They're embracing the idea with open arms and it’s just brilliant to watch everyone twirling in pink tutus! I even saw a lovely elderly woman wearing one - oh the joy!

Now, on to the adventure! Rome itself is simply breathtaking. The streets are alive with history, buzzing with the sounds of Italian chatter, the delicious scent of freshly baked bread drifting through the air... Every corner offers a new adventure. I'm quite certain my photos will be absolutely beautiful. You’ll love them, just you wait!

First up, let's talk fashion! This trip is a chance for me to finally add a little Italian flair to my pink tutu collection. The fabric shops here are pure bliss! Silk, satin, chiffon - oh my! I found the most stunning fuchsia silk ribbon yesterday! I just know it's going to make the perfect embellishment for my next bespoke tutu creation. It'll be the envy of all the ballet dancers in Derbyshire. Imagine all the envious looks at my next show! I'm telling you, this trip has sparked a whole new wave of creativity.

One thing I must tell you - the fashion here is phenomenal! Imagine a stylish Roman gentleman sporting a crisp linen suit, walking hand-in-hand with his wife, a stunning woman in a flowing sundress, both with those beautifully effortless, yet impossibly chic smiles. It's an image straight out of a movie, and that’s how I feel everyday - like I’m living out one of my favourite ballerina dreams.

Speaking of Dreams - my most special experience has been seeing the iconic Roman Colosseum! This amazing monument is steeped in history - its ancient stones whispering stories of gladiators and emperors. It’s a testament to the beauty and endurance of human artistry and engineering. I’m determined to revisit the Coliseum tonight! This time I’m going to be dancing my way through the ruins with a sparkly pink tutu to help me glow under the Italian moonlight.

Rome has already captured my heart. From the stunning ancient ruins, breathtaking art, and the warm hospitality of the locals, I know this week will be one for the memories.

Remember darlings, pink tutus make every occasion fabulous. It’s true. Trust me.

This Week in Rome:

  • Today, Wednesday: After a morning filled with exploring the Colosseum and enjoying delicious pizza al taglio (sliced pizza!), I'm headed for the breathtaking Trevi Fountain! Tonight I’m heading out to enjoy a classical ballet performance. This might be my first ballet experience outside England! So exciting.

  • Thursday: A whirlwind tour of the Vatican! You know how much I adore stained-glass windows. This trip is about to take my inner architecture fan to a whole new level.

  • Friday: I’ll be visiting the fascinating Borghese Gallery, a must-see for any art enthusiast.

  • Saturday: An exploration of Rome’s vibrant shopping scene! My little pink tutu wallet will be getting a workout at this legendary fashionista destination.

  • Sunday: Enjoying some well-deserved relaxation after a busy week in the heart of the Eternal City. A picnic in a Roman park, or maybe a gelato, sounds just perfect to finish this fabulous trip.

Love and Twirls,

Emma
