Pink Tutu Rome: Post #552 - Wednesday 4th January 2006 - Exploring the Eternal City!

Buongiorno, darlings!

It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, and this week's Pink Tutu Rome post is overflowing with excitement, as I'm writing to you from the heart of the Eternal City, Rome! This gorgeous, history-soaked city is making me utterly giddy - just thinking about the ancient ruins, cobblestone streets, and of course, the pasta, puts a skip in my step.

I travelled here by train, of course. There's nothing quite like a long journey by train for sparking creative ideas and admiring the scenery (though I might need to invest in a neck pillow!). The anticipation builds with every clickety-clack of the wheels, and the excitement of arriving in a new city is unparalleled.

Rome is absolutely bursting with a vibrant energy and cultural allure that makes you feel as if you've stepped into a movie. I spent the morning exploring the bustling Piazza Navona. The beautiful architecture is like a dream - I felt like I was in a painting come to life! I sat in a little cafe sipping cappuccino while people-watching and soaking it all in, and my, oh my, the fashion scene here is inspiring! It's a delightful mix of classic and trendy with a distinct Italian flair. It's the perfect inspiration for a budding ballerina and fashion enthusiast like myself!

Later in the afternoon, I indulged in a delicious lunch of carbonara (a pasta dish so divine I felt my soul soaring!), followed by an afternoon stroll through the romantic streets of Trastevere. It's a labyrinth of winding alleyways, charming squares, and hidden boutiques filled with the most exquisite Italian ceramics and artisan goods.

The energy here is truly infectious, and I found myself caught up in the joyous atmosphere, spontaneously twirling to the tunes of street performers - what better way to spread the pink tutu love? You can't visit Rome without taking in the sights of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. These monumental relics of ancient Roman history are a sight to behold - so powerful and breathtaking. Standing there, I could imagine gladiators clashing in the Colosseum and the roar of the crowds echoing through the arena. I even felt a touch of inspiration for my own "Gladiator Ballet" - perhaps I'll develop it into a full-scale production, what do you think, darlings?

As dusk fell, I was utterly mesmerized by the sight of Rome illuminated by golden lights, casting a warm, ethereal glow over the city. I walked past bustling markets overflowing with fresh produce and delicious pastries - the aroma filled the air and tantalized my senses. I picked up some sweet ricotta pastries and took them back to my charming little hotel for a taste of Italian bliss before falling asleep to the sound of street musicians.

Rome is so far a whirlwind of delights, and I've only scratched the surface of what this captivating city has to offer. Tomorrow, I'll be visiting the Vatican City, with its magnificent St Peter's Basilica. It's an absolute must-see, and I'll be sure to share all the highlights with you!

Speaking of sharing, what's everyone else wearing this week? Have any of you lovely ladies ventured into a tutu yet? I'm eager to hear your experiences! I'm planning on taking some beautiful, inspirational pictures in my latest tutu - a luxurious pink one, trimmed with delicate sequins, perfect for the elegant streets of Rome! And maybe a sneak peek of the "Gladiator Ballet" I mentioned! Stay tuned...

Don't forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com every Wednesday to follow along on my Roman adventures! Until next week, my dearest readers, keep your spirits bright and embrace life in your own beautiful, pink-tutu-ed way.

Love, Emma x
