Pink Tutu Rome: #598 – A Roman Holiday!

Ciao bella!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another dose of pink-tutu-powered travel on www.pink-tutu.com. This week, I'm waltzing through the cobblestone streets of Rome, Italy. You'll never guess what I'm wearing? Well, of course you will - my trusty, vibrant pink tutu, a dazzling feather boa (perfect for keeping away those pesky Roman mosquitos!), and a pair of adorable, sparkly ballet flats that glitter even under the Italian sun.

Let's be honest, I'm a firm believer that any trip is infinitely more magical with a dash of pink tutu. This, my dears, is what I call "Tutu Tourism". I'm not just here to soak up the history and the scenery (although I must admit, the Colosseum is a sight to behold!); I'm here to experience Roman life with a twirl in my step and a little bit of extra pink in my day.

Travel by Train:

As you know, my favourite way to travel is by train. So, after an invigorating ballet performance at the Derbyshire Royal Ballet Theatre in Matlock Bath (funding another one of my glamorous adventures!), I packed my pink-tutu essentials (sparkly suitcase, a ballet bar to stretch during travel, and, of course, an extra pair of tutus, just in case!), boarded the Eurostar in London, and was whisked away on a journey through the breathtaking French countryside to beautiful Rome.

The train journey was filled with such charm! I met some delightful fellow travellers who were captivated by my pink tutu, as always. One young gentleman even tried to teach me how to speak Italian (I managed a "Grazie mille" and a few clumsy, yet well-intended, Italian ballet steps. My new friend, however, looked very impressed. I think I charmed him! I may be getting another guest for my Pink Tutu Ball!)

Arriving in Rome

Upon arriving in Rome, I was immediately taken aback by its beauty. This is a city built for walking and exploration! The scent of fresh bread and pastries floated through the air, and I caught a glimpse of a lively street performer who was dazzling the crowd with a spontaneous breakdancing session! It's hard to avoid the urge to just stop and tap your feet – and maybe let out a small, pink-tutu twirl!

First Day of Sightseeing and Fashion Find

My first day in Rome was a whirlwind of beautiful discoveries. I visited the Trevi Fountain (and of course, tossed a coin for a wish!), wandered through the ancient Roman Forum, marveled at the majestic Colosseum, and soaked in the breathtaking panorama from the top of the Spanish Steps. It was a day brimming with historical wonders and, to be perfectly honest, quite a bit of shopping.

My ultimate fashion find: a gorgeous, delicate pink scarf with beautiful Italian silk embroidery. This will add a dash of "Roma glam" to my tutu-inspired ensembles for the rest of the trip. It's like a secret code to the Roman fashion world: I found my hidden pink!

La dolce vita, Ballet, and Food!

I know, I know. You are all probably dying to know, what's on the agenda today?! I shall enlighten you:

  • Breakfast in a Hidden Roman Cafe: A feast of perfectly roasted coffee, crispy croissants, and mouthwatering Italian gelato (my absolute favorite – a flavour I can't quite figure out. My guess, "strawberry cream dreams"). A cafe off a little hidden street behind my hotel, a must-visit when in Rome!
  • A Stroll through the Borghese Gardens: Beautiful green spaces in the centre of this glorious city! I will be practicing my pirouettes amongst the statues, and perhaps attempting to create my very own 'pink tutu' interpretation of a dance!
  • Ballet Class with Rome’s Ballet Institute: What better way to keep fit in this magnificent city, then to join a ballet class and perfect my elegant movements and twirls. I will, of course, be sharing all the fun! (There is already a large number of dancers taking pink tutu inspiration! You should see how good they look.)
  • Opera at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma: The night is for celebrating the art of performance and I’m thrilled to be taking in an evening opera performance in Rome, accompanied by a glass of bubbly (Pink prosecco, obviously).

This Week’s Tutu Inspiration

I'm absolutely loving the pink tones and floral patterns in Roman fashion right now. I can see a touch of Tuscany inspiration and it just screams, “PINK TUTU!” You'll find me sporting a vintage-inspired silk dress with delicate pink floral embroidery and, of course, my signature pink tutu. I've also paired it with a cute little beret with a small, delicate feather (in a shocking, but complimentary shade of pink).

My Little Secret: (This might get me into trouble...!) I have found a "Secret Pink Boutique" in the very heart of the city. This enchanting shop is hidden down a little alley, it is a haven of fashion gems: delicate pink silk blouses, vibrant floral dresses with a distinctly vintage air, and even some stunning pink sequined shoes (perfect for dancing, of course). Oh, my dears, this shop is heaven on Earth. Let’s just say, a shopping spree has just begun.

I’m also planning to attend an art exhibition tomorrow – the Galleria Borghese - It is rumored there will be ballet performances! You know how much I love a bit of balletic history. The more we are all inspired by this dance art form, the better.

My message to you?

This week’s #PinkTutuRome travel story has been all about embracing a pink-tutu lifestyle in a beautiful and historic place like Rome! I invite you all to add some “tutu touch” to your next travel experience, wherever it may be. And don't forget to snap pictures and share your Pink Tutu Adventures using the hashtag #PinkTutuTravel! I'm absolutely certain this hashtag will bring me another adventure for my next pink tutu travels.

I’ll be sharing all my Roman Adventures with you next week! Until then, arrivederci and tutti benvenuti (translation: "goodbye" and “welcome”)

Lots of love and pirouettes!
