Pink Tutu Rome: #617 - Ciao Bella!

Buongiorno from the Eternal City! This week I'm waltzing through Rome, where the ancient ruins meet designer boutiques and the scent of gelato hangs heavy in the air. Honestly, this city is so divine it makes my pink tutu twirl with delight!

As a quick reminder for any new readers: I'm Emma, your trusty ballerina guide to life's beautiful things, and my website is www.pink-tutu.com, where I post every Wednesday about my latest adventures! It’s been a whirlwind since my last post – who knew a Derbyshire girl could fall so hard for Italian charm?

Today's post is brought to you from a cute little café by the Colosseum, where I'm sipping a latte, nibbling on a delicate (and totally pink) macaron, and soaking up the gorgeous Roman sunshine. My tutu is perfectly fluffed out for maximum twirling potential, because frankly, Rome deserves a pirouette or two.

From Derbyshire to Rome: A Train Journey to Remember

Now, I don't know about you, but train journeys are my absolute favourite part of travelling. Imagine, hours spent staring out the window at breathtaking scenery, and enough time to work on my latest choreography or simply let my mind wander.

My trip from Derbyshire to Rome was a real dream! Imagine chugging through charming villages with quaint brick houses, past lush green meadows dotted with sheep, and finally arriving in a bustling city teeming with life. It was pure magic.

Finding My Inner Gladiator

Rome's charm doesn't just lie in its fashion scene, oh no. The history here is simply awe-inspiring. Imagine wandering through ancient temples and amphitheatres, touching the very stones that saw emperors rule and gladiators battle. It’s a total immersion into a different era!

Today I'm exploring the Colosseum, that giant structure that could swallow up the whole city, practically oozing with stories of its past. It was absolutely spellbinding to wander around this vast amphitheatre, to imagine the roar of the crowd and the clash of steel. I've even taken a stab at trying to "fight" a fellow tourist in a playful "gladiator" duel, all in good fun, of course! (Pink tutus don't actually mix too well with swords, believe me!).

Rome: Where Fashion Meets History

For a ballet girl like me, Rome is simply divine. Imagine all the incredible fashion shows, stunning couture designs, and stylish street style. I’ve been happily snapping photos of all the elegant ladies, many rocking bold colours, patterned prints and statement shoes. Naturally, the colour pink is always popping up in Rome. This place is seriously inspiring, I just have to add a touch of Rome to my ballet class outfits!

Shopping Until I Drop

Speaking of fashion, let me tell you about Rome's amazing shopping scene! You have the high-end boutiques on Via Condotti, offering luxurious designer pieces. But, don't get me wrong, there are so many lovely vintage stores and independent boutiques brimming with gorgeous clothes at more affordable prices! I can't resist dipping in and out of each store, just for the pleasure of looking at all the exquisite fabrics, flowing silhouettes and shimmering embellishments.

Yesterday, I found the perfect little pair of blush pink ballet flats for my Rome look! They are a delicate shade of pink, and they totally complement my wardrobe of twirling tutus and perfectly chic floral skirts. Today, I'm off to find a silk scarf in a gorgeous pink print. Perhaps a touch of floral, with a hint of Italian romance? Oh, I'm simply spoiling myself!

Roman Cuisine - A Dance for Your Taste Buds

You simply cannot talk about Rome without mentioning its food! Honestly, it is absolutely divine. And it all looks so pretty and delicious! From perfectly creamy gelato with its rainbow-coloured toppings, to creamy pasta with lashings of rich sauces, I'm experiencing all the delights of authentic Italian cuisine. And did I mention the pizza? Crispy thin crusts covered in heavenly cheese and delectable toppings! I could easily eat my weight in pizza, or even try one of those giant bowls of creamy Italian pasta. I might even add some parmesan cheese. You know how I love to make my ballet routines exciting!

A Date With the Maestro

Tomorrow, I'm going to the opera, my friends! I can't wait! I have a date with the Maestro, so to speak, and there's a show playing at the Rome Opera House! I adore seeing all the beautiful dresses and costumes. The gowns are spectacular, the music is magnificent, and the energy of the place is captivating. If that wasn’t enough, the buildings themselves are simply breathtaking, with amazing architecture and stunning design. A true feast for the senses! I’ll definitely post a follow up on my experience later in the week, you’ve got to believe me, it’s gonna be totally divine.

Finding My Pink Tutu Family in Rome

Everywhere I go, people in Rome seem to appreciate a beautiful twirl! It’s simply delightful, to have your pink tutu recognised in a city full of so much style! And that brings me to the best thing about traveling – connecting with new people. Rome has a magic way of bringing people together, from locals to other travelers. I've met some truly wonderful souls during my time here: friendly Italians, bubbly backpackers, and fellow ballet lovers. We've shared tips on where to find the best gelato, debated the best pasta sauces, and most importantly, shared our love for everything pink. Perhaps it’s the way my pink tutu pops against the Roman skyline, but I've even had a few local kids join in with some impromptu twirling!

Join the Pink Tutu Movement

Rome is teaching me to be bolder, more playful, and even a bit more sassy. It’s reminding me of the power of colour and that a pink tutu can bring joy to even the most stoic Romans. It's teaching me to be unafraid to express myself, and that wearing pink can actually be the ultimate fashion statement!

I've even spotted some Romans sporting pink accessories, from hats to shoes. They seem to be embracing the pink power wave, perhaps inspired by yours truly. Honestly, it's so inspiring to see more people in Rome getting in touch with their inner pink and embracing that fabulous side! So, if you're thinking about a pink tutu, let me tell you – Rome is ready for it. In fact, the world is!

I hope my travels are inspiring you to get out and explore the world. But above all, I hope you’re inspired to wear your own pink tutu and spread some pink love wherever you go!

Arrivederci for now, my friends! And until next Wednesday's post, keep your tutus twirling and your smiles bright.

Yours in pink, Emma.
