Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! Post 637 - Wednesday, 22nd August, 2007
Buongiorno from Rome! 🩰 🇮🇹
The Roman sun is blazing down, but even that can't melt this ballerina's excitement. I've finally made it to the Eternal City, and let me tell you, it's truly magnificent! From the cobblestone streets to the ancient ruins, every corner whispers stories of history, culture, and romance. It's the perfect setting for a pink-tutu adventure!
I flew in this morning, taking the first available flight out of Gatwick to Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (they really have a great knack for dramatic names here). I had just enough time to get to my hotel, toss my luggage in, change into a new pink tutu I found in Derbyshire – it's a pale pastel shade that looks absolutely fabulous under the Roman sunshine – and head straight out for a bit of sightseeing.
A Day of Italian Wonders:
Today I walked the streets, feeling like a little pink butterfly flitting through history. It was glorious! The ancient Roman Forum, the Colosseum – oh, to imagine the gladiatorial combat that once took place within its walls – the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain (I couldn't resist tossing a coin over my shoulder for good luck – and you can bet I wish I had another two euros in my pocket right now!), and the Spanish Steps… Rome is just one gigantic stage waiting to be explored!
I made sure to stop for some lunch in the shade, enjoying a plate of pasta alfredo (my all-time favourite) and a large glass of sparkling Prosecco – absolutely heavenly!
This afternoon, my first major mission in Rome took place: A visit to La Scala del Teatro! For any serious ballet fan, this iconic theatre is a must-see. Just entering the magnificent hall gave me goosebumps. Imagine all the amazing dancers who have graced this stage! The intricate designs, the velvet curtains, the stunning craftsmanship... I truly feel inspired just standing here! I’m hoping to snag tickets for a performance next week, maybe even catch the world-renowned Teatro dell'Opera di Roma Ballet!
Later this evening, after indulging in gelato at the Gelateria del Teatro – you'll find me in the queue for those delectable hazelnut-almond scoops! – I’m headed to the Piazza Navona to watch the street performers. The last time I saw a street performer dressed as a mime they really threw a spanner in the works, which was super awkward. You know the feeling. It seems these artists, the jugglers, the dancers, the mimes, really come alive in this ancient setting.
The Beauty of Travel:
Rome truly is a dream come true! It's all so beautiful and I just know this city is going to steal my heart! I'm already planning out the next few days and looking for some new outfits to match the elegance of this incredible place. Who knows, I might even buy a whole new wardrobe – the local shops are bursting with stylish delights, and let's face it, pink tutus and designer dresses are a perfect match. I just need to decide what to buy first.
The journey so far has been amazing! I boarded a little local train at Verona station and rode to Rome on the fastest and cleanest train in Europe – honestly, the carriages are sparkling! It’s always fascinating watching the world pass by from the train windows. This journey offered endless views of rolling vineyards and picturesque Italian villages. Even the passing vineyards are looking fabulous – can’t wait to catch one of the local wine festivals this weekend. The food is sensational! And let’s not forget about the glorious Italian sunshine. Every moment is like a little bit of magic!
It's All About the Tutu:
As for the tutu front, let me tell you, pink is the colour of Rome! The sunsets, the gelato, the flowers... it all feels so romantic and feminine! My new pastel tutu looks fantastic against the ochre walls, cobbled streets, and azure sky of the city. It’s all about making an elegant and memorable statement while embracing the spirit of the city. And of course, promoting my pink tutu movement.
This week, I’m also hoping to share a ballet class at a local dance school! It’s time to give my pink-tutu-clad limbs a good workout! I imagine the students in this class have never seen a full tutu before! Hopefully I won’t end up looking ridiculous - the pink tutu look might just be an acquired taste. I’m sure there will be a lot of laughter - maybe I should pack my portable radio for some disco beats in between the barre work. If nothing else, I’m certain to have some fun – that’s the pink tutu way! I’ll keep you updated on all the details next Wednesday!
Stay tuned, and don’t forget to embrace the pink! 💖 🩰
Until next time,

P.S: If you are in Rome on Wednesday, 29th August, why not pop down to Piazza Navona at 5 pm and say hello? I will be sharing the most perfect slice of pink pistachio cake in front of the Bernini Fountain while dressed in a pink tutu and watching the buskers perform! Just remember to wear a tutu if you'd like to join me! 😊 Let’s create a pink tutu flash mob right here in the Eternal City!
