Pink Tutu Rome: Post 638 - La Dolce Vita in a Pink Tutu

Ciao Bella!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome blog post! I'm so excited to share my latest adventures with you from the Eternal City!

Last week, I was performing in a lovely production of Swan Lake in Sheffield, and my dancing feet are already itching for a new stage. But for now, Rome is calling! I arrived by train on Monday afternoon, the rhythmic clacking of the wheels against the tracks putting me in the perfect mood for a new Italian adventure. And speaking of rhythm, it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Rome blog post without a little tutu action! This time, I'm sporting a gorgeous vintage pink tulle tutu from a boutique I found in Derbyshire, just a hop, skip and a jump from my local ballet school.

The train journey through the English countryside and then across the Channel was truly magical. I sat by the window, sipping on a latte (one of my indulgences whilst travelling), watching the changing scenery and picturing myself in all the glamorous Parisian cafes. I swear, just the thought of all those Parisian dresses and pastries got me so excited I nearly donned my pink tutu right there on the train! But luckily for my fellow passengers (and maybe for my own sanity), I decided to hold back until I got to Rome!

As soon as I arrived at the Roma Termini Station, the warm Italian air filled me with excitement. There's nothing quite like the energy of a new city! And let me tell you, Rome has an aura that's truly impossible to resist. The cobbled streets, the gelato stands, the ancient ruins... all with that unique Roman charm that I just can't get enough of! And, of course, there are shops! Oh my, Rome is a fashion paradise!

Speaking of shops, let's talk about this glorious Wednesday. Today, I spent the entire morning browsing through the boutiques and vintage stores in Trastevere. This district has such a vibrant, artistic feel, with its cobbled streets, flower-filled courtyards, and street performers at every corner. I just had to capture the whole thing on Instagram, of course.

There are a few things you simply must do in Rome: eat, see, shop, repeat! And today, I got a great taste of all of it! For lunch, I tried the best pizza I've ever had at a tiny trattoria tucked away in a little courtyard, with all the deliciousness that Italian cuisine is famous for. (Of course, I paired it with a refreshing glass of chilled Prosecco, just for a touch of La Dolce Vita!). And what was I wearing, you ask? Why, a pink tulle tutu, of course! I found it was the perfect attire for soaking up the Roman atmosphere - and for catching the eyes of everyone on the street, much to the amusement of the local children who waved to me and said "Ciao, Ballerina!" with huge smiles. It warms my heart to see how many children are already enchanted by the power of a pink tutu!

Later, I strolled down Via Condotti, the iconic shopping street, and let me tell you, I was overwhelmed with the amazing window displays. It felt like the ultimate fashion dreamland! I found the most fabulous pink ruffled dress with a vintage look (I couldn't leave it there!), and some delightful earrings in the shape of miniature Roman coliseums - which I can't wait to pair with my favorite vintage ballerina flats! Who can resist a touch of whimsy?

Today was filled with those classic Roman experiences - and even better, I found some amazing shops that will be my go-to spots for all my ballet needs in the coming days! I love exploring and finding those hidden gems, especially for those special accessories for the stage - because let's be honest, every ballerina knows that the perfect outfit is a key part of any show!

So what are the highlights of Rome, according to a Pink Tutu wearing ballerina, you ask? Here are my top 5 (so far!):

  1. The Colosseum: Just walking through this historic landmark gives you goosebumps! It's impossible not to feel the history within these walls, and it's no wonder it's one of the most famous structures in the world.

  2. The Pantheon: This incredible dome is not only visually stunning, it's also a remarkable feat of engineering. You can almost imagine the Roman emperors looking out over the city from this incredible space, surrounded by their advisors and artists!

  3. The Trevi Fountain: Okay, let's be real, throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain is practically a must! I heard it's said that throwing a coin over your shoulder, will guarantee your return to Rome one day, so I had to give it a try! I wish you all the same luck!

  4. The Roman Forum and Palatine Hill: A wander through this historic park with the remnants of ancient Rome feels like stepping back in time. These ruins really take your breath away, reminding you just how much history is intertwined within this incredible city!

  5. The Italian food scene: Honestly, there are just too many options! It's pure food heaven! And it doesn't even need to be complicated. Sometimes the most delicious meals are the simplest: fresh pasta, mouth-watering pizza, creamy gelato... It's like a dream!

However, my Rome journey is far from over. Tomorrow, I plan on joining a ballet class - because there is no better way to feel at home, anywhere in the world. I am excited to meet fellow dancers from the Italian school and learn some new routines with them. And I wouldn't miss the opportunity to capture the beautiful Italian scenery on camera! And maybe... just maybe... I'll even find a gorgeous vintage tutu in a local antique shop to add to my collection!
