Pink Tutu Rome #642: La Dolce Vita, Ballet and a Pink Tutu

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another dose of Pink Tutu adventures, and this week, we're straight from the heart of Rome!

I’m Emma, your tutu-wearing travel blogger extraordinaire, bringing you the latest from my Roman escapade. Remember my motto? "Every day's a performance, and everyone can be a ballerina, even if it's just in their hearts". Today, I'm showing you how that spirit extends to this vibrant Italian capital, where fashion is an art form and life itself is a stage.

For those of you who are new here (and if you're not, welcome back, my darlings!), you've landed on www.pink-tutu.com, the place where pink is a state of mind, tutus are a lifestyle choice, and every adventure is an excuse to twirl. As you might guess, I'm from Derbyshire, England. My love affair with dance started young, with the magical twirls of a classic Swan Lake performance. That love ignited my passion for travel and the idea of seeing the world in pink, and guess what? This blog makes it happen! Every week, I travel to a new city, finding beauty in every corner. This week, it's the Eternal City, where my ballet performances help fuel my wanderlust.

Train Ride Blues

I love travelling by train. There’s something incredibly romantic and freeing about leaving behind all those earthly cares for a journey to the unknown, especially when you’re travelling in style, my loves!

From the picturesque Peak District countryside, to the iconic Italian landscape whizzing past, every journey holds new wonders. This time, I packed my suitcase, adorned with glittering rhinestones (my mum always says "sparkle wherever you go, Emma!"), with my favourite pink tutu and headed towards Rome. There was just the right amount of excitement and a hint of trepidation, because let's face it, every adventure comes with a dash of the unknown.

I took my first train journey from my quaint village in Derbyshire all the way to London, and then boarded a sleek, Italian train to the Eternal City. There’s nothing more charming than a vintage Italian train, wouldn’t you agree, my dears? There was a kind, old Italian man, a handsome waiter with beautiful blue eyes (it wouldn’t be a trip without some good looking men, would it, lovelies?), a giggling, excited child and myself, enjoying the journey.

Rome: A Celebration of Beauty

We arrived at the Roman Termini Station, and right there I knew this was going to be a special journey. The city was alive with energy – people chatting, laughing, sipping cappuccinos. And as the train journey ended, so did another chapter, and another ballet performance in a beautiful London Theatre to pay for my adventure, which will always have a place in my heart.

From the very first glance, Rome had that "I'm in love" kind of feel to it. After all, isn't Rome a city for love and beauty, in every form? You know how I feel about love – we are all destined to be dancing queens.

There were grand Roman ruins – a constant reminder of the city’s glorious past. We made our way past the Colosseum (did I tell you how much I loved seeing gladiator performances as a child?), a grand arena, with an overwhelming feeling of grandeur, but it wasn’t all history – the streets were a rainbow of shops. Imagine my delight, with so many fabulous boutiques – the most beautiful silk scarves, perfectly made leather bags, sparkling gold jewellery. I've never seen so many exquisite items, each with their own stories.

My favourite was an enchanting vintage clothing store where I picked up a gorgeous, hand-painted silk scarf. Did I tell you about the dress I got in a little shop tucked away in an alleyway? A scarlet red cocktail dress, that reminded me of the fire-haired sirens of the red light districts.

A Ballet of Food

Oh, the food! We had the most amazing meals! You have to try the authentic Roman cuisine – the pasta, oh, so much delicious pasta – it melts in your mouth! It's like a delicious ballet of flavours, my dears.

We sat on a bustling outdoor terrace, under twinkling fairy lights and ate an unforgettable meal. Think plates overflowing with steaming ravioli, and delicate tagliatelle, alongside mouthwatering plates of ricotta, and an elegant cheese platter – a selection of the best, rich and creamy. Everything tasted heavenly! It was almost like being in a ballet – each plate was a tableau, and every bite a performance. I just can’t get enough of these exquisite Italian food rituals, darling!

For dessert, we enjoyed creamy gelato - every spoonful is a flavourful dance of cool and smooth! Even our cappuccinos were an art form – perfect tiny swans floating in foamy white clouds! I loved them so much.

Finding Ballet in Rome

This being Rome, how could we resist a ballet performance, you ask? A true highlight was the breathtaking "Giselle" performed at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, and it was absolutely divine! Seeing the city lit up, followed by this show was something special. Seeing all those talented dancers move in perfect harmony and their incredible costumes – it was absolutely enchanting, almost hypnotic! It felt like we were all one, connected by the story unfolding onstage.

That night, after our enchanting performance, we took in some nightlife and, in the process, spotted a ballet school tucked away on the ancient cobbles – oh my, this city is a gift from the gods! A ballet school, nestled in this bustling city!

So, there you have it, darlings! My first foray into Rome has been truly magical. From exploring hidden corners to witnessing the grace of ballerinas in the Eternal City – this journey is truly a pink-tutu dream come true. I cannot wait to explore what awaits me on my next trip, with my latest collection of pink tutus, silk scarves and vintage clothing!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go for a quick dance on my pink-tutu – I can’t let these wonderful stories go untold! Until next time, darlings. Remember to shine wherever you go and never be afraid to let your inner ballerina twirl freely.

With Love,

Emma

P.S Don't forget to check back next Wednesday for more Pink Tutu adventures – my journey takes me on the Italian Riviera next, and, oh my, I’m excited! The sunshine, the beaches, and the sea are all beckoning to be explored, all in the name of love and, of course, my beautiful pink tutu! Remember you can also find me at www.pink-tutu.com. Until then, dance, darling, dance!
