Pink Tutu Rome #644: La Dolce Vita, in Pink of Course! 🩰🇮🇹

Ciao Bella! It’s your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, and today’s #PinkTutuRome blog post takes us to the vibrant heart of Italy - Rome! The eternal city, a treasure trove of history and beauty, has been beckoning me for months and I finally got to waltz into this captivating metropolis last week. And, what better way to celebrate a trip to Italy than with a fabulous pink tutu, right?!

As you all know, train travel is my absolute passion (after tutus of course!) and the journey from Derbyshire to Rome was pure bliss. I boarded the Eurostar in Paris and soaked up the French countryside, mesmerised by the sprawling fields and picturesque villages flitting by. Then, I arrived in Italy and felt like I was in a movie set, everything was so incredibly charming, with cobbled streets, bustling cafes and even a troupe of street performers giving a thrilling ballet show! They really knew their stuff, and as luck would have it, I happened to have my tutu in my suitcase (it’s always there just in case, you never know when a dance opportunity might pop up!). Of course, I couldn't resist joining in for a spin, the passersby loved it! They applauded me with warm smiles, “Brava, Brava!”, the compliments just flowed. They said it was like "magic, " and “the streets came alive!" You know, a tutu really can make you feel like a princess wherever you go.

Once I arrived in Rome, my jaw dropped! Every street corner felt like a picture postcard. Ancient ruins like the Colosseum and Roman Forum are simply awe-inspiring. I spent a day exploring them, picturing the gladiatorial combats and the life of the Roman emperors. I could even imagine the whispers of ancient history on the wind!

On Tuesday, my ballet cravings took over, and I went to a beautiful theatre near Piazza Navona to see a captivating ballet performance by the Roma Opera Ballet. "La Sylphide," such a masterpiece! The ethereal choreography and the romantic tale were perfectly brought to life by these incredibly talented dancers. The atmosphere in the theatre was electric. I was mesmerized from the first beat to the final curtain. As I walked out onto the cobblestone streets, the echoes of the music were still playing in my head. Ballet really is a universal language, and Rome embraced it with open arms.

For Wednesday, I had a delightful treat in store – a special pink tutu shopping adventure at the luxurious Rinascente Department Store! It’s just a ballet dancer's paradise. From shimmering satin and exquisite tulle to the finest embellishments, my heart simply soared! I even spotted a stunning blush-coloured tutu that looked like a masterpiece spun from rose petals. Oh, it was simply divine! I'd never seen anything like it, it was truly one-of-a-kind.

My shopping spree didn't stop at Rinascente! I couldn't leave Rome without exploring the vibrant local markets, brimming with handmade crafts and unique treasures. I fell in love with a vintage silver necklace with a delicate ballet shoe pendant. And of course, a little pink scarf for my wardrobe! I believe in accessorizing and embracing pink whenever possible, don’t you? It's all about finding that little something special to brighten up your day.

After a full day of exploration, I settled down for an evening of pure culinary bliss in the charming Trastevere district. The cobbled streets are lit with fairy lights and the smell of delicious Italian cuisine floats through the air. The "Pizza al Taglio," a square pizza, is a must-try. Of course, no meal is complete without a generous helping of pasta and a glass of Italy's finest red wine. It truly was a feast for all the senses.

One of the best parts of being a travelling ballerina is meeting inspiring people from different walks of life. In Rome, I met a lovely young woman named Lucia, a street artist, who embraced my pink tutu with enthusiasm. We spent an afternoon together sketching each other, talking about art, and, of course, dreaming about pink tutus. I’m sure her next piece will have a touch of pink magic! Lucia's artwork had such an energetic spirit, capturing the beauty of the Roman streets in bold colours and evocative lines.

Another enchanting experience was visiting the charming Piazza di Spagna, a picturesque square where fashion and artistry intertwine. As I twirled around in my pink tutu, taking photos by the famous "Spanish Steps," a group of street performers played Vivaldi's "Spring" on their violins, adding a touch of Baroque beauty to the moment. It felt like I was in a scene from a ballet film!

Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without indulging in gelato! In the heart of the Trastevere district, I found a charming gelato shop. They have the most delectable flavors, from classic vanilla to decadent chocolate to, of course, pink strawberry, it's all there! This little gelato heaven has captured my tastebuds!

And the people here, oh, they are absolutely delightful! The Romans are so friendly and warm-hearted. I've been overwhelmed by the kindness I’ve received from everyone. Even if they don't speak English, they smile and try to communicate. It’s the little things that make such a difference, like being greeted with a hearty "Buongiorno," or seeing the genuine excitement in a child's eyes when they see my tutu.

Rome truly is a city for dreamers, and as I write this, the sun is setting over the city, painting the sky with hues of orange and purple. I can't help but feel inspired and rejuvenated by this vibrant and enchanting city. It’s a city that will forever hold a special place in my heart.

But wait, there's more! Today, my #PinkTutuRome blog post will feature a special guest – a stunning ballerina named Sofia. We met at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, she's a ballerina who has won countless awards for her talent. Sofia shares my passion for the dance and, yes, you guessed it – she even owns a few pink tutus! We're going to talk about her journey, the inspiration behind her performances, and what makes Rome a dream city for any aspiring ballerina.

Don't forget to visit our blog every Wednesday to stay up-to-date with my #PinkTutuRome adventures.

I encourage you to spread the #PinkTutuLove and share your own pink tutu moments with the world! Who knows, you might inspire others to embrace the pink magic too!

Remember, even when we're not performing on stage, every day can be a little ballet, full of grace, joy, and of course, lots of pink.

Until next Wednesday, remember to twirl, sparkle, and stay fabulous!

Your ballerina in pink,

Emma
