Pink Tutu Rome: Post 646 - A Ballet-Fueled Journey Through the Eternal City (2007-10-24)

Ciao Bella!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome blog post! I'm Emma, your pink-loving, tutu-touting travel companion, and I'm absolutely delighted to share with you the adventures I've been having in this glorious, historical, fashion-forward city - Rome!

I arrived by train on Saturday, which is always such an exciting way to travel. I love the gentle swaying, the views rushing past, and the charming cafes you find along the way. It’s almost like you’re entering a fairytale as the train carries you into a new city, its secrets ready to be discovered. And boy, does Rome have secrets!

For those of you who follow my blog regularly, you know how much I adore the theatre and ballet. I even fund my travels through my passion – performing in shows and taking classes, and this trip is no exception! Last night, I had the honour of seeing a ballet at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, which, oh my goodness, was a sight to behold. It was a dazzling mix of beautiful costumes, intricate choreography, and masterful performances. And yes, it was utterly divine! I think my smile hasn't stopped radiating since!

Speaking of radiating beauty, the Italian style scene is phenomenal. I love the flowy fabrics, the classic tailoring, and the elegant mix of old and new. Rome has some of the most stunning vintage shops and designer boutiques, all with a unique Parisian flair that I just can’t get enough of! Yesterday, I spent an afternoon getting lost in the charming streets of Trastevere, admiring the independent fashion houses and vintage shops nestled amongst charming cafes and hidden courtyards.

But this trip isn’t just about shopping and ballet, although it's hard to resist such delicious distractions! The history here is truly inspiring. The Colosseum, with its sheer scale and enduring power, made me feel so small yet deeply connected to the past. It's a tangible reminder of a vibrant, complex civilisation that still fascinates and intrigues us today. I spent hours just gazing at its grandeur, feeling a wave of awe and excitement wash over me.

Today, I'm planning to explore the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill, learning about the daily lives of people who walked these very streets centuries ago. This city is like an open book of the past, a beautifully preserved tapestry waiting to be explored, unraveling layer by layer, revealing the mysteries and triumphs of an incredible era. And that is something truly magical!

My Pink Tutu Rome travels aren’t complete without a touch of dolce vita, of course. And what better way to experience this than with an evening in a picturesque Roman square, enjoying a glass of delicious Italian wine? The combination of Italian cuisine, warm sunshine, and lively conversation always leaves me feeling invigorated, ready to embrace all that Rome has to offer.

As I walk these charming cobblestone streets, I can’t help but imagine what it would be like if everyone in the city wore a pink tutu! Perhaps then we’d truly capture that spirit of freedom, whimsy, and joy that makes this city such an enchanting experience. But even without everyone embracing their inner ballerina, Rome still has that magic, that certain "je ne sais quoi", that is unique and undeniably alluring. It’s something that touches your soul, your senses, your imagination, and leaves you yearning to explore, discover, and most of all, to dance!

I'm off to discover more hidden corners and explore another one of this magnificent city’s breathtaking treasures. Join me again next Wednesday, for more pink tutu adventures, fashion finds, and insights into the enchanting world of Rome!

Arrivederci!

P.S. Remember to share your favourite Pink Tutu adventures with me! I love hearing from you and discovering how you’re embracing the pink tutu life in your own special way.
