Pink Tutu Rome: #657 - Ciao Bella! Exploring the Eternal City in Pink
Wednesday 9th January 2008
Ciao Bella! It's Wednesday and you know what that means – it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure! I've arrived in the Eternal City and my trusty pink tutu is packed and ready to twirl! I can't believe I'm actually here – Rome has always been on my bucket list and it's even more spectacular than I imagined.
The journey was, as usual, an absolute delight. There's nothing quite like the rhythm of a train journey, watching the countryside whizz by and feeling the anticipation build with every passing mile. My little tutu suitcase was crammed with pink essentials – I couldn't resist packing a few new outfits just for this trip – including a divine coral-pink velvet dress I found in a vintage boutique in Derby. It's just begging to be photographed in front of the Colosseum, don't you think?
I checked into my little guesthouse in Trastevere and it's adorable – all terracotta tiles, ivy-covered walls, and a courtyard bursting with lemon trees. It's so much more charming than any sterile hotel. Plus, the owner makes the most delicious cappuccinos, just what a girl needs to get the day going.
First order of business, of course, was a trip to the local market. There were mountains of fresh fruit and vegetables, and I just had to try a slice of pizza with ricotta and spinach - divine! While I was there, I snagged a vintage straw hat for my afternoon walk. It’s a gorgeous shade of blush pink, of course, and just what my outfit needs.
Next, a little wander through the charming cobblestone streets of Trastevere. This part of Rome is just pure magic! Everything seems to whisper stories of history and romance. It's like stepping back in time with every corner you turn.
As the sun began to set, I took a walk across the Ponte Sisto bridge, just before the lights of the city flickered to life. It's such a breathtaking view of the Tiber River and the twinkling city beyond. It's these moments that make travel so unforgettable. It was all so inspiring! I could see myself here writing my memoirs in a cafe one day - "The Pink Tutu Diaries".
To round off my perfect day, I treated myself to an authentic Italian dinner. I indulged in some delicious pasta, followed by tiramisu – so light and fluffy. You’ll never taste tiramisu this good anywhere else!
Wednesday 9th January - I discovered an incredible vintage clothing store, "Atelier Emma," right here in the heart of Rome. I know, right? We're meant to be! They have a vast selection of clothing, handbags, and hats, all just screaming to be worn with my pink tutus.
This vintage shop really is a dream for a pink-loving, tutu-wearing girl like me! I just had to add a few new additions to my wardrobe. The owner, a lovely woman named Elena, was thrilled when I told her about my blog and my dream to spread the pink tutu love around the world. She even gave me some styling tips for my upcoming photo shoot at the Colosseum. I can't wait to share those pictures with you all. You might be surprised by the styling choices we came up with, it really pushed my boundaries!
Later in the evening, I wandered into the magnificent Galleria Borghese. They're holding an exhibition on a collection of ancient Grecian ceramics and it was so very beautiful. I love discovering new art in different corners of the world! There is so much creativity to find! It truly inspired my own design and the possibilities I see for pink tutus to enhance ballet fashion for all performances. Perhaps I’ll even design a special pink tutu for my own stage shows… maybe I’ll wear it while touring the Roman colosseum, perhaps, it is possible! How absolutely fabulous!
My dear friends, it's already getting late here in Rome. Time for a little gelato (chocolate, of course!) and then a peaceful night’s sleep. I've only scratched the surface of what Rome has to offer and can't wait to share more adventures with you next week.
Don't forget to check back in for my next Rome adventure - I have so much more to share, including an incredible encounter with a street performer, a little ballet lesson (you know I can't resist a class!), and more stylish finds. You'll have to come back and see what mischief I get up to!
Ciao bella!
