Pink Tutu Rome: #662 - Bella Italia! (Wednesday, 2008-02-13)

Ciao bellas!

This is your Pink Tutu Rome gal, Emma, reporting live from the Eternal City itself! It's a whole new level of excitement for your favourite pink tutu-clad adventurer. Imagine a whole city brimming with history, beauty, art and, of course, fabulous food. Now imagine you get to wear a fluffy pink tutu in all that glorious setting. Cue the happy twirls and a dusting of magical fairy dust!

As you know, my lovely readers, my travel adventures are fuelled by the passion for ballet and the sparkle of performance. I funded this trip with a fabulous run of shows in Derbyshire. There's nothing quite like the feeling of being on stage, hearing that thunderous applause, knowing you've just transported the audience to a magical place. And then? The train ride! The rhythmic hum of the tracks, the fleeting glimpses of the countrysideā€¦ all this is pure, pure magic for your Tutu-ista!

And so, after the thrill of performance, I found myself in a world of ancient monuments, bustling piazzas and stunning art ā€“ a ballerinaā€™s dream! Today, I was whisked back to a time of gladiators, emperors and grand Colosseum. Talk about impressive architecture! Even in my pink tutu, I felt like a tiny, dancing, pink-hued blip amidst the ancient stone, the history of Rome breathing down my neck!

Of course, no trip to Italy is complete without shopping! Itā€™s a known fact that Italy has some of the finest fashion in the world. But here's a little Pink Tutu tip: even with a pink tutu budget, you can find an absolute treasure trove of stunning fabrics, amazing lace and accessories to embellish any tutu. I may have overdone it a littleā€¦ but just a little! šŸ˜‰

Rome also has some amazing ballet and theatrical performances. This evening, Iā€™m off to see an operetta. I love operettas ā€“ theyā€™re the perfect blend of story, singing and spectacle, a real feast for the senses! I bet they have a costume or two that will spark some ideas for my next tutu design. Oh, to be able to waltz through the Italian streets with the magic of a tutu around me!

Speaking of magic, my trip here just wouldnā€™t be complete without sharing with you some little pink tutu snippets of the most incredible places in this city.

For all my fellow Pink Tutu fans, this is my recommended ā€œPink Tutu Must Do Listā€ in Rome: * * *Roman Forum and the Colosseum: A truly breathtaking spectacle of history and a must-do for any traveller.

  • Vatican City: A majestic treasure trove of art and history, it's the smallest country in the world and a place thatā€™s full of wonder.

  • Pantheon: This incredible ancient temple has been around for ages and is a true architectural masterpiece.

  • Trevi Fountain: Itā€™s more than just a fountain; it's a romantic landmark and a symbol of eternal love.

  • Shopping: Now, this is my favourite thing! Italian fabrics and fashion are just heavenly, even if it is a bit too easy to overdo it!

And, last but not least... * Enjoy some delicious Italian cuisine: Forget everything you thought you knew about pizza. Authentic Italian pizza, from the right ingredients, is a true experience. But donā€™t stop there - enjoy all the amazing pasta dishes, freshly caught seafood and local gelato too.

There you have it, my dearies! It's been another magical adventure, and as always, Iā€™ll be sure to share all the fabulous details of this fabulous Italian getaway in future posts. So stay tuned!
