Pink Tutu Rome: #673 - Ciao Bella, from the Eternal City! 🩰🇮🇹

Wednesday, 30th April 2008

Hello darlings, and welcome back to my weekly wanderings on Pink Tutu Rome! Today I'm bursting with excitement as I find myself in the heart of the Eternal City, breathing in the vibrant energy of Rome! As you know, travelling is my absolute passion, and exploring new corners of the world is the perfect excuse to wear my favourite pink tutus. 😉

Remember how I told you I'd be back in Italy soon, after my unforgettable weekend at the International Ballet Festival in Venice? Well, this week I’ve decided to swap the canals for the cobbles and am immersing myself in the romance of Rome! The journey by train from Venice to Rome was, as always, a joy. There's something incredibly glamorous about riding through picturesque countryside, watching the world unfold from my window. It's the perfect opportunity to catch up on reading a juicy ballet book or two, sketching new outfit ideas, or just soaking up the beauty of the journey.

Of course, no trip to Italy would be complete without a stop at a glorious Italian boutique! This morning I've already snagged the most beautiful silk scarf, emblazoned with the Colosseum, to wear over my favourite pink tutu - the one with the frilly ruffles! I imagine myself twirling through the ancient streets of Rome, my tutu swirling around me like a blossoming flower.

A Feast for the Senses:

One thing that struck me about Rome was its captivating energy. The air hums with history and creativity, and the vibrant sounds of chatter, music and laughter mingle with the sweet scent of fresh espresso and freshly baked bread. The streets themselves are a canvas of glorious colours – from the terracotta-red roofs to the azure-blue skies, every corner offers a visual feast. The beauty here is absolutely breathtaking!

A Glimpse of History:

After indulging in a delightful breakfast of pain au chocolat (I am quite partial to French pastry, you know), I decided to start exploring. First up on my agenda was the Colosseum! Standing in front of this awe-inspiring monument, I felt an incredible sense of history swirling around me. This enormous structure, once a gladiatorial arena, is truly a wonder to behold. I found myself imagining the epic battles that once took place here, the cheers of the crowd, and the stories etched in its ancient stones. I felt like I'd stepped back in time!

Pink Tutu Rome - Adventures in the Forum:

I am no stranger to ancient wonders, as you know I adore visiting ruins! It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Rome trip without stepping back in time. So, of course, I strolled through the Roman Forum, marvelling at the ruins of ancient temples, baths and marketplaces. Imagine – all those years ago, people were shopping and living their daily lives right where I was standing. The whole experience was truly inspiring and left me utterly in awe of the Romans and their incredible civilization!

A Performance with a Twist

Now, I know what you're thinking – a ballerina like me would naturally seek out a ballet performance in the city of Rome. However, my dear readers, I decided to do something a little different this time! Instead of a traditional ballet, I discovered a mesmerising performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. They presented “La Traviata”, the opera. You’d think the graceful moves of ballerinas would make up my only experience, but I truly loved the beauty of this opera! The intricate costumes and the emotive music created such a powerful and unforgettable experience. My darling, I even had a bit of a wobble myself when the lead singer's voice hit a truly beautiful note.

Shopping & Indulging

It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu trip without a little retail therapy, would it? And Rome, oh my goodness, Rome has me practically drowning in beautiful clothes and shoes. From elegant boutiques to charming shops tucked away on cobbled side streets, I found a whole world of treasures to add to my wardrobe. Today, my finds were an exquisite, hand-crafted silk blouse in the most exquisite shade of lilac and a stunning, handmade pair of shoes made from golden leather and topped with shimmering emerald gemstones. Talk about a pair of shoes that scream "Rome"! I simply cannot wait to wear them to the Opera or the ballet! Perhaps a new pink tutu might be the perfect accessory for a night of elegant opera.

Food Glorious Food

As for food, darling, let’s just say my taste buds are having a wonderful time! The delicious smell of freshly baked bread fills the air and each meal has been a gastronomic delight. From authentic Italian pizzas and steaming bowls of pasta to melt-in-your-mouth gelato, every single mouthful has been a sensory experience! I couldn’t possibly resist taking a photo of every plate I've eaten – I know you would all agree they looked like absolute works of art!

Sunset in Rome

As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and rose, I sat on the banks of the River Tiber, taking in the beauty of Rome's skyline. It was a truly magical moment, a perfect ending to a wonderful day.
