Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2009-03-18 - Ciao Bella!

#PinkTutuRome, post 719

Hello from the Eternal City! This week, #PinkTutuRome lands in the heart of Rome, a city bursting with history, art, and deliciousness - just like my favourite ballerina pink tutu.

I arrived on Monday, sweating slightly under the glorious Italian sun, after a smooth and rather glamorous train journey from Derbyshire. Nothing beats travelling by train – a comfy seat, the rhythmic chugging of the engine, the fleeting glimpses of charming villages and vineyards zipping by, and the perfect opportunity to work on my latest choreography – in a pink tutu, of course.

Speaking of pink tutus, I managed to squeeze in some time for shopping (my second favourite activity, right behind twirling). Now, Rome isn’t quite a mecca for tutu shops, but I did find the most gorgeous pink sequinned handbag at a little boutique in Trastevere – it practically screams 'ballerina on holiday'! It’s the perfect accessory to go with my new ruffled, bubblegum-pink midi dress that I snagged at a vintage shop in Piazza Navona.

The main reason for my Roman escapade is the ‘Teatro dell'Opera di Roma’! This magnificent building, the pride and joy of Roman architecture, is hosting ‘Giselle’ this week, and let me tell you, I’ve been waiting for this for months!

My week has been a whirlwind of delicious pasta, breathtaking architecture, and the sheer thrill of exploring this iconic city. My pink tutu, predictably, has been a source of many smiles and delighted glances. As I was skipping across the cobblestones, I even caught the eye of a rather dashing gentleman sporting a stylish beige suit – perhaps it was my tutu’s delightful combination of elegance and frivolity that captivated him.

The Roman air hums with the energy of the city's passionate people, their boisterous laughter, and their fervent appreciation for the arts. Even the traffic, usually a source of chaos, feels somehow charming in Rome. As I gaze across the vast expanse of the Forum, I can almost hear echoes of emperors and gladiators whispering in the breeze.

My Tuesday adventure:

Today was a dream come true! After a morning of soaking in the splendor of the Colosseum and marveling at the beauty of the Trevi fountain, I found myself mesmerized by the magic of the Galleria Borghese. Sculptures seemed to come alive, and the paintings whispered stories of ancient gods and legendary figures. It's truly a feast for the senses, especially with my ballerina pink tutu flowing gracefully around me.

A tip for the travelling ballerina:

Pack comfy shoes, ladies! I can’t tell you how much walking is involved in Rome! But don’t worry, even in heels, a pink tutu adds a touch of magic and allows you to dance your way through cobblestone streets.

I'll be back with more #PinkTutuRome adventures next Wednesday, with exciting insights from the opera and all things 'ballet-ly' delightful. Don't forget to pop over to www.pink-tutu.com to share your favourite pink tutu looks and get your dose of twirling inspiration!

Until then, keep twirling and spreading the joy!

Your fellow dancer and passionate pink tutu lover,

Emma
